Honey, this is not my problem. It's on these "young black men" to pull themselves up....I just don't think it's right for them to expect black women to stick by their sides and offer all the benefits of marriage without marriage. The only women obligated to stick by a broke ass man is his wife and his mama (and even that has an expiration date in most cases).

Asking women to be poor with you is not going to work in this day and age. If you are broke you need to sidestep dating until you get yourself together rather than expect women to just accept your broke bullshyt.




Exactly....which is why it would behoove chicks to aim high and not low on the economic totem pole.

The men I know making between $10-$15 are living paycheck to paycheck. No 401k. No IRA. No pension. No type of investments. Most don't have health insurance and their savings is almost non-existent. They don't own their own homes (and haven't even considered how they will afford one if they ever decide to buy a home). On top of that their credit sucks.

Funny enough...none of the above has encouraged them NOT to procreate.

The funny thing is, I know a lot of female posters agree with this post but refuse to dap it because it's basically radioactive.

I've been through my share of heartbreaks and it's just harder for me to date b/c of that.
But I just want to be happy.

I made my wife wait until we were married. 1 whole year.

Not for any religious reason, just because I wanted to show her I was serious about her.

If y'all are serious, it'll work, but it'll take work (and discipline) on BOTH your parts.

I think the most important thing is not where you meet a person in relation to their journey, its if you believe in their vision to get where they want to go. My wife is in the same boat for me. I used to work for Ford, left when they offered buyouts as I was going back to school. Got my bachelors, got my masters and had to rebuild back up. I did do just that. I'm at near 70k a year, but it wasn't always that great. My wife, back when she was my girlfriend, bought into my vision of where I wanted to go. I didn't sell her dreams of owning a club, a restaurant or other foolishness, my moves were far more calculated. She saw how hard I studied in school, how I sought out job fairs in different states to go to, how many times I stayed up late to look for jobs. Literally looking like a zombie, pushing myself so I can prop up my family. In a sense, compared to most people, I've "made" it but I'm far from done. However, she would have never been a part of this if she would have just passed off on me because I wasn't making good money anymore for a time. Same with her, she's never made more than 23k a year, but that never factored into my decision as to why I should be with her or not. Money should be the last thing that defines love and/or a relationship.

Do you think your girlfriend would have still given you a chance if she saw you work at a fast food place and making 10-15/hr with no prospects of better employment?
There's a big difference between someone having a temporarily low paying job going through school and someone who has no skills working a 10-15/hr job.
