That's what I keep telling folks! There's a reason they are going the buyout route. They can't just fire government employees that aren't political appointees it's illegal. A majority of federal employees aren't taking the buyout either because of how vague it is and no guarantees baked into it. Plus it's not appropriated by Congress so there is no money to even pay folks. They throw this out for people who don't read beyond the headline to run like a chicken with their head cut off. That way they can do the more underhanded stuff behind the scenes. Now I do believe there will be a shutdown next month to try to inflict maximum pain on federal worker to get them to quit voluntarily. But they also forgot that they baked into law that furloughed employees are guaranteed back pay and benefits so people will go and do something else until the government is back open to keep the economy from crashing. Again he's surrounded by idiots we have a grand idea of how they want things but don't understand the system they're trying to change lol

Bloomberg reported that the buyout email said the following:

A follow-up to the initial buyout email, sent in response to a flood of questions about the message, clarified that those who accept the so-called deferred resignation offer don’t have to work and can even use the free time to take a trip.

“You are most welcome to stay at home and relax or to travel to your dream destination,” the email said.

Feels like a trap, because Musk/Trump know damn well they are not going to make good on those buyouts.
