Small market teams in general don't have an issue drafting. Can they pay the guys they've drafted in Year 5 while going out and even attracting free agents, let alone being in the front of the line to pay them? That answer is no.

Curry becoming an MVP on a bargain was the key, but they were able to withstand signing KD and maxing Curry when payday came, plus Klay and Dray, because of who/where they are.

The OKC/New Orleans/Memphis Warriors don't have the same story as the Golden State Warriors.

If there were ever to be an owner who says "fukk the second apron, these banners must go up", it'll be one in a (very) big market.
Yeah Golden State was a unique situation. The owner was willing to spend in order to win

You can have an owner like Stan Kroenke for example in Denver who has unlimited money

He has money and he married the granddaughter of Sam Walton

If he wanted to he can just pay the tax and spend in order to keep winning

Funny that you mention that considering that the bulk of teams in the league are shytty when it comes to drafting and player development hence them having to spend that type of money in the first place to create a team. A lot of these teams have been terrible at that aspect for years and these CBA changes aren’t going to change that.
Many teams, big and small markets, but the teams that really draft well lean towards small. There are no championship teams built 100% through a draft, pieces are always acquired/signed, guys who were supposed to be a certain level in one place don't pan out and get new life in a reduced role elsewhere, veterans ring chasing after a decade doing what they were doing, players on prove it deals after injuries, etc.
What’s weird is, this also hurts teams like OKC who have hoarded young talent and picks. Even if they draft exceedingly well, they can’t keep everyone.

Obviously they’ve maxed out SGA and he’s a 1st team All-NBA. They’re also gonna have to break bread for Giddey, Chet hasn’t even played, Jalen Williams looks like the real deal, plus what happens if they draft a legit all star with their treasure trove?
It doesn't hurt them because if all of these guys panned out, they were not going to (super)max all of them to keep them, or afford to sign incoming players to supplement them the way Golden State supplemented the core they drafted.
The problem with the salary structure is the true stars are vastly underpaid. If you the true top 5 guys get paid whatever the market will bear PLUS you have a hard cap, all these other problems will naturally solve themselves.
Now this I agree with. I just don't think a hard cap is necessary if there's no ceiling for the true stars. Because then that creates a situation like the NFL where the players union is divided because there is too large of an economic gap between the Top 10 players and the bottom half of the league.

He doesn't have unlimited money. That's another thing brehs don't understand or don't want to understand for militant reasons. These owners aren't Gates/Bezos billionaires and for many of them just as much of their wealth is the worth of their teams as it is their other ventures.

Maybe he doesn’t, but he had a good year and stayed healthy, maybe he doesn’t make as much next year but if he can get a 4 year deal why wouldn’t he?

Be better.
The one man who was gonna give him a 4 year deal got fired two months ago.

Not sure of KP's market...

Beal didn't ask out. A new GM wants to start from scratch.

Is it really being cheap to not want to eat $200M+ in tax when the actual cap isn't even that high? And like I said to @Joe Sixpack here and on other threads in general, the only franchises who could/would ever entertain that are in Bay Area-sized markets.

Now teams in every market need to be smarter about who they draft and who they give Powerball money to, not just small ones.

If they don’t want to pay it they don’t have to, but just because the Charlotte’s & Indiana’s of the world are content with being mediocre and putting in bare minimum effort doesn’t mean other teams need to be punished

The Warriors didn’t buy their team through free agency. They drafted Steph, they drafted Klay, they drafted Draymond, they drafted Looney, they drafted Poole. Isn’t that what we want as a league? And now it’s a problem because a team is willing to pay a premium to keep their own homegrown core together?
