So that has nothing to do with not having power in music. They're selling out for money. As simple as that

Woah surprised by this thread. Are we as black people finally going to address the violence we faced in it communities as a result of people who look just like us?

Last time I tried to speak on this I got accused of using blue lives matter propoganda about black on black violence.

You got rappers like lil Durk tatting BLM on his arm while his lyrics talk about ending black lives smh.

Black people have addressed black on black crime. It's not going to go away over night, and it will never be down to zero. But acting like black people haven't been addressing this for decades is inaccurate.
10 Songs Against Gun Violence

I remember as a kid we had that "squash it" campaign. And black people have anti-crime groups all over the country. And people like to leave out the fact that even a guy like Al Sharpton has crime summits.

But is it a good thing that commercial rap (not Hip Hop in my view...) has been around for decades as the primary form
of black youth music?

What happened to our ability to regularly create and re-create new forms of music?

Spirituals, Blues, Ragtime, Swing, Bop, Gospel, R&B, Soul, Hard Rock, Funk, Disco, House, Reggae, Hip Hop, Rap.

Does our historical creativity and music invention forever end with rap?
I don't understand your question.

My thing is; as long as black people don't have real power in music, we'll be victims of it's imagery, also.

LA Reid stay getting jerked around by the white men really in power. And who else is there, really?

I don't understand your question.

You had made the following point:

I'm all for Hip-Hop over-representing us in the media. But, it's deeper than that. And we literally have no power in music.

And my response was meant to ask: Why do we want Hip Hop (really commercial rap) to continue for decade after decade, to represent us?

This extended period of non-innovation for new forms of black music is unprecedented for us. Why are we so tied to rap in ways that we weren't tied to any previous form of music culture?

I can't take that stance. It puts u in the same category as Stanley Crotch/Sherif D Clarke. Malcolm X was once a goon who robbed and stole. Individuals can be redeemed

When u take the :mjpls: stance you become just as bad as the individuals you just described.
Malcolm X grew up in a time when whites were the visible enemy to Black Americans and the demand for civil rights was key . I don't think more of the youth is that informed about the struggles we have today. It's either how are they gonna make a ends meet, social media, and what rapper has the dopest hit now

We don't have a choice.

We do not have power in media. And I'm sorry if that sounds outlandish, but, it's true. Bryon Allen is currently suing because cable companies do not do business with black OWNED media.

White people reach black audiences and young white audiences with Rap music. Seventy-percent of the market for Rap music is young white males. Migos aren't on the Tonight Show and making records with Katy Perry to reach us. The bread and butter of all major artists are their white audiences.

Artist traffic in a "Black Cool" that white people can attach themselves.

At no point are black people that big of a concern. Notice that dispute #BLM and the Trump presidency there are no Public Enemy types really making noise. It's club and druggie music. Because club and druggie music can be played at music festivals in Tennessee.

It's not our faults.

We all casualties to this perpetuated imagery ........for a dollar :yeshrug:. I have no use for these rappers who go extra hard with it (because they know what they are doing imo).. Its trash and terrible for those of us who dont do it.. but it just shows me people lack the sense to realize that, while shyt like this DOES happen.. this shyt is imagery. People are ignorant and want to continue to be as such.

The obvious rebuttal would be the stupidity of any other group of ppl who "fear" us, when their own are incredibly violent. This shyt is a fukking human trait now smh

What a dysfunctional world we live in.

Blame the symptoms and not the disease brehs ...:wtf:

When black people were singing negro spirituals and love songs we were getting lynched
and unlawfully discriminated against

Those early blues and soul singers were singing about love x 10000000000000 and cacs were still brutalizing us

and them n!ggas had on suits with bowties and the women had long skirts and shyt :dahell:

Stop using music as the scapegoat... :camby:

Of course he'll ignore this and go back to listening to his favorite rapper Eminem. He's been making the same threads for years and hasn't done shyt in real life to fix anything. He's admitted that himself. White supremacist propaganda targeting black people has always existed as long as we're here. It didn't matter whether we were performing jazz, soul, hip-hop, etc.

This thread shows me that the time of hyper-negative rap is almost over.

When @PhonZhi started making these threads showing the harm perpetuated by hip hop, there were a lot more than one person deflecting from hip hops responsibility. He would be getting dragged in these threads.

I only see one poster and a few daps still fighting.
The storm is over breh :wow:
