This thread really makes a great point about blacks perpetuating their own stereotypes. We can say that it's not that serious but it is. The reason this is so serious is because this image is being peddled not only to adults but, also to the children that are suppose to follow in our footsteps. We can always say that good parenting will push kids away from the bad behavior they see but, realistically parents can't protect their children from the influence of media forever. Media is so prevalent and so easily attainable now that children can see these images all the time and, eventually start feeding the cycle by mimicking what they see people that look like them doing. If black children are seeing constant images of black people like themselves being glorified in the media for doing things like killing each other and fighting with each other than they are going to starting mimicking that behavior and passing it on to other children and the children after them.

I'm sorry about being so wordy.
In short black people do need to be more conscious of the image that we are broadcasting in the media because even though it may seem like it doesn't matter it does to the children that are looking to us to guide them.
