Is Max going to replace Go, and just add more content? This is the first I’ve heard of it. I don’t mind paying a couple more dollars, especially since I’ll probably cancel Netflix by next yr.

Exactly. The first two seasons were pretty good political satire and pretty valid critiques of cultural issues.

The last two seasons felt like they were straight up ridiculing black people at times and I wasn't really feeling it.
Season 3 was McGruder getting rushed to do the show and Season 4 was completely without him so hopefully we’ll get Season 1/2 greatness since he’ll be back at the helm

For those that don’t know Season 3 was supposed to be the final season, Mcgruder didn’t even want to do S4 as he already felt like Sony was rushing him to produce seasons and the quality was falling off. He also didn’t like that Sony made him cut two Huey centric episodes from Season 2 (The Hunger Strike and The Uncle Ruckus reality show) because he was going in on BET. Sony also pulled a season 3 episode “Pause” going at Tyler Perry from the airwaves after Perry bytched about it.

So there was a lot of fukkery behind the scenes before the Season 4 fiasco even came about.

hopefully with him back in the driver’s seat for this reboot he’ll be invigorated and empowered to do things his own way. Which means we’ll be back to the quality of Seasons 1-2.

Yep. If you binge the series (like I've done probably 5-6 times) there's a noticeable difference in tone and content going from 1/2 to 3 and then a complete drop in quality going into season 4 after he dipped.

I notice more of a difference in tone/content between the first two seasons. I believe season one was the closest the show ever got to replicating the tone of the comics (based on the comics that I've read). There were also more attempts at being emotional, like in "Wingmen," "Riley Wuz Here," and "The Passion of Reverend Ruckus." The Boondocks was always comedic, but in the first season, there was something quieter and more earnest about it.

Honestly, I think the reason for that is because it was the first season and you're trying to feel the characters out, so everything is safer. The world you created is always the most innocent and wide-eyed in season one. In season two, they already started doing less Huey-centric episodes and focusing more on Riley, Granddad, and Uncle Ruckus. Not to say the show got worse in season two, but it went in a different direction that was noticeable from the season premiere. They weren't trying to be as earnest and heartfelt as they were in season one.

Season three has some of my favorite episodes of the series ("It's a Black President, Huey Freeman," "A Date with the Booty Warrior," "Mr. Medicinal," "The Fried Chicken Flu," "Smokin' with Cigarettes"), and to me, it did a better job of balancing the comedy and social commentary than in season two, which for the most part, was just telling stories. Season three was supposed to be the last one so I like how it wrapped up the story arcs for most of the characters.

I rank the seasons like this: 1, 3, 2, 4. Seasons two and three are a lot closer to each other in tone to me than seasons one and two. Season one was an outlier because it did things the show never attempted again, and the majority of season four was so far removed from what The Boondocks was that it doesn't even feel like it counts as an actual season. I can be objective and say that a few episodes had potential or were genuinely entertaining ("Freedom Ride or Die," "Freedomland," "I Dream of Siri," "The New Black"), but most of the episodes were either too focused on Granddad, resorted to lazy parodies ("Good Times," "Breaking Granddad"), went to places the show has already went to and had nothing new to say ("Pretty Boy Flizzy," "Early Bird Special," "Stinkmeaner 4"), or should have never been made at all ("Granddad Dates a Kardashian"). The main storyline was never even resolved. :mjtf:
