Stayed up late to finish Insomnia. I know it's a very divisive novel but I loved it. I have had bouts of insomnia so I could really relate to that and it also touches on my fear of old age not just for myself in the future but also my parents who are around the age of the protagonist, Ralph. Also, this has some very strong Dark Tower ties and with it being set in Derry it has several references to IT

Just got done reading The Wolves of the Calla. Book number five in the Dark Tower series. Really glad I read 'Salem's Lot prior because it has heavy ties to that book. You really see the growth in the main ka-tet in this book and the story opens up to some meta stuff. I've seen some reviews and comments say this is where the series dips in quality but I don't see.

I'm surprised I was able to knock out three big books this month

Just finished the Low Men in Yellow Coats part of Hearts in Atlantis. Great coming of age story with Dark Tower connections. Once I finish up with the Dark Tower I'll get back to the other stories in the book

Already on Lord of Chaos and this just keeps getting better. Rereads work best at different stages in life, there's elements I didn't fully appreciate before or that didn't resonate the same way as they do now.

After I finish a Stephen King book I go listen to a discussion on it from a few King centric podcast, and that sentiment of receiving a book differently in a re-read is one of the things that pops up a lot. Most of them read the books as kids and now they are 30, 40-somethings with life experience they gain a whole new appreciation for his work because they can understand the topics and situations that he has in his books

Been meaning to read the Dark Tower series for a while now. Never was able to get through the 1st book. I'll try again. A lot of people I follow have been reading Stephen King lately with a lot of praise.

I read the first page of The Gunslinger many years ago and I couldn't get into it. I started it again in August and toughed through the beginning and I felt the book got better but he halfway point.
Now I haven't read a whole lot of Stephen King but having knowledge of his other books adds a little something, I think, for when you read the DT series.
I would suggest reading the DT connected books in publication before jumping into the series. I kind of wished I did it that way I but luckily I read 'Salem's Lot and Eyes of the Dragon before. Since I got two books left I'll just read the Everything Eventual story in between Songs of Susannah and The Dark Tower.

May I also suggest reading along with The Kingslingers podcast. I did it with Wolves of the Calla. Personally I didn't need it but they did point out some things I either didn't connect together or missed

This is for the Gunslinger.

Just finished Song of Susannah, book 6 in the Dark Tower series.

:whew: that last stanza (that's what the chapters are called) was tense. I loved the Coda at the end.

I've seen this get a lot of hate and I understand why but I grew up loving the meta stuff in comic books like the Grant Morrison Animal Man so I was perfectly fine with it.

Just finished up The Dark Tower
:whew: what a journey.

I remember this book getting a lot of heat for the ending but I was perfectly fine with it and found it fitting for all that we learned about with Roland.
I took some time reading this because I think there was a side of me that didn't want to journey to end because I grew attached to the characters. Very bittersweet, imo
