Just finished reading The Long Walk by Richard Bachman (Stephen King)

This book literally had me like :whew:
Can't think of the last time I read a book that had me so engaged and tense. Maybe Battle Royale and that was over 10 years ago. Apparently they are adapting it into a movie

Just finished reading Carrie.
I like the news and interview inserts that were in the book. If another adaptation of the movie happens I think I'm including those would be a good touch.
I knew Carrie had it bad from watching the movies but reading it is when I felt really bad for the character.

The one criticism I have seen the most of that series is that it has a lot of bloat.
Where you say bloat, I read that as detailed. He's extremely meticulous when it comes to describing almost every detail of this world, from the food to the economy to characteristics of the people and that certainly fills pages when there's no actual movement in the story itself.

BUT the end result is that you can almost taste every meal, you actually understand when someone is using curse words despite the fact that it's nothing we would use in reality, you can actually laugh at the jokes from Mat and the others because he took all those chapters laying the groundwork. The book lives because of those overly detailed chapters and I think it's more than a fair trade.

Have you read Malazan

Wheels of time is the teenage version in comparison
Yeeeeaaah we're going to have to agree to disagree on that entirely. Outside of sharing the broad sphere of Fantasy/Adventure, they're two completely different animals and can only be compared in broad strokes I e. large cast, number of books in series, etc.

Like trying to compare Nightfall to I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. Yeah they're both sci fi shorts but that's it for common ground, the disparities are too vast.

I read both so nah :yeshrug: even acknowledging the difference WoT didn't execute at the same level for me

Just finished 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King.
This was a dope ass vampire story. I think I'm going to watch the movie tonight while I eat dinner.
