That's one

keep going... then make a comparative list with the RZA and Premo.... then ask me if i'm trolling with a straight face:stopitslime:
Bandana and Piñata are great

I’d argue that it’s literally not possible to drop albums now that are as classic as Cuban linx, liquid swords, moment of truth, etc. Hip hop was still so new back then. Now days it’s much harder to make something that no one has heard before. Basically everything has been done and heard. Those albums also came out when we were young and are tied to our nostalgia and our history. There’s no way as adults we’d even accept new albums to be as classic to us as 36 chambers.

not to mention the music making process for artists (especially young ones) is completely different in 2021 compared to the early to mid 90s.

Exactly. The internet has literally killed the ability to shock the world like 36 Chambers did. 36 Chambers was the first time people got to hear Wu. Now days there's always a lot of loosies or mixtapes that hit the internet first. There's way more music from everyone, and it's a global art form now. In the pre-online era you could really surprise people with an entire body of work that they weren't expecting. Everyone has songs or projects and mixtapes on Souncloud, Bandcamp etc as they're coming up. It's a very different era.

Even if the creativity and talent is there, we won't ever get albums that impact like the ones from the golden era just due to logistics.

I'm not saying we can't compare albums now to the albums in the past. Is the answer that no new era albums can be considered classic because of this? Is the standard forever going to be the golden era classics, and if nothing can be as good as those then they can never be classics? I'm sure some people would argue yes. I don't know. I think there's a discussion worth having.

Only off first impressions, but not up to the previous standards. Assume this is filler to the next full LP.

I know Alc just had a kid recently so I assume he's married also?

If so he must have the perfect support network around him in terms of family for him to consistently release so many projects. I dunno how he finds the time, she must just say do your thing and I'll take care of everything else.
er
How many beats must this dude make if we're just hearing the ones he chose for each project he must be making what 30 beats for each project?
Knxwledge was sayin when he was out there Alc would wake up early as fukk and make beats until early in the afternoon (3-4 ish) then take it easy while everyone else starts locking in on their stuff

imagine having Alc beats for breakfast and Knx beats for dinner everyday :wow:

I remember 9th used to actually treat it like a 9-5. He'd wake up and do beats until the business day winded down. Actually, one of the big reasons he first stopped recording in the studio with Phonte and Pooh is because Phonte and Pooh were night owls that liked to be in the studio later on, and 9th liked to be in the studio earlier in the day.

There's also a big mindset among the early bird crowd where they feel really good knowing that they're grinding while other people are sleeping. I'm big into BJJ and martial arts, and some of my teammates that train early morning so they like it because they know they're getting better while their opponents are still at home asleep. At the very least I think this mindset makes people think they have an edge.

Just want to ask everyone but we all agree that Alchemist is the producer of the year right?
I think so. I think it's been him and Hit-Boy the last couple years. Personally I think King's Disease 2 is the best Hit-Boy project of the past 2 years, but he's done less this year than Alc has. I think you can probably make a decent argument for each of them.

I didn't love Haram, but I reconginze it's great for its lane. Just not my taste. But Bo Jackson is my favorite Alc produced project this side of Covert Coup. And I think Super Tecmo is sort of the BoldChemist version of Covert Coup. Not very structured, but just 9-10 short joints that sound like an audio collage. Two very dope bodies of work for 2021.

This Thing Of Ours was a bit too experimental for me as well, but I liked This Thing Of Ours Part 2.

Just curious could I ask your top five?

Sure.
(Pretty basic list, and I can’t promise nostalgia isn’t fukking with my judgment)

1. ALC
2. Primo (he made the music of my youth. I’m a little sad he’s not #1 now)
3. Just blaze
4. Rza
5. Pharrell/Neptunes

honorable mention Timbo

and I love 9th, heatmakerz, dilla, and so many others. But can’t rank em above those guys.

feel free to post yours if you have time.
