Chavez Jr: Golovkin Purse Was Not What I Expected
Posted by: Salvador Rodriguez on 5/9/2014 .

By Salvador Rodriguez

Former champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. says he was offered a much lower purse then expected for a potential fight with WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, who would move up to 168-pounds to take the fight. The match was targeted for July 19th at the Forum in Los Angeles but now appears to be a dead issue with both fighters heading in different directions.

Chavez was willing to take the fight, but only as long as Top Rank provided no promotional contract extension in the agreement. Chavez believes his contract expires by the end of the year and Top Rank claims to have him until October 2015.

"It was not what I expected. It's not what you'd expect for fighting Golovkin. What I want is just for them to give me what [I'm worth]. I sold 600 thousand homes against [Sergio] Martinez [on pay-per-view] and surely this fight could sell something similar. I want to be paid fairly. I am not asking for anything excessive, just enough," said Chavez.

According to Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, he sees no reason to meet Chavez's high monetary demands if the Mexican star intends to become a free agent following the match.

So Arum is saying he sees no reason to pay Chavez what he wants, because JCC Jr intends on leaving TR following the match:dahell:

And @Black_Jesus.....this is who you're riding for breh:comeon:

It's obvious Arum thought he could hold this fight over Jr's head, and force him to sign an extension, but he was wrong:heh:

from the home of coca-cola, i'm not referring to s
That doesnt make any sense:patrice:

Is Pacquiao ever seeing a 40 million dollar pay day again?:stopitslime: Well, then it's the EXACT same thing as you saying JCC Jr will never see $10 million again as @ChocolateGiddyUp saying Pac turned down a career payday over drug testing. Both of th purses they were offered would've been their career highs and NEITHER of them will be offered that again:ufdup:

JCC Jr career high pay day is still $3 million against Sergio Martinez.....how much you wanna bet that JCC Jr joins up with Al haymon and goes on to make career high paydays without Arum?:sas2:
When Pacquiao turned down Floyds drug tests his purse would've been $25 million... His career high is $26 million...
When Pac was offered $40 mil he had already agreed to all Floyds tests.. you must be confused:sas1:

Jr turned down $10 million with no other option until fall 2015..:snoop: it aint the same

For starters that fight didn't do 600,00 where he get that number from...

His career high is $3 million... He was offered more than double that for GGG plus a two fight extension. That wasn't good enough so he was offered $10 millie plus a 1 fight extension instead.. What type of bytch nikka turns down $10 millie GGG fight just beause they have to fight one more person after that? I rather defend Arum than this type of faggitry...

Put yourself in Arum shoes for a second.... the fact that Jr straight up refuses to sign a 1 fight extension for $10 million and he's under contract until fall 2015 ... that should tell you that this punk nikka possibly has no intention whatsoever of fulfilling his contract and is possibly gonna just look for a way out after you give him GGG and pay him $6.6 million. All Arum did was protect himself in case he was on some fukk shyt... Asking for 1 guaranteed fight was reasonable to me.. Dont understand why nobody else can see it from this perspective

Jr is what? 27-28?? He can sit out for 3 years no problem especially after a career high payday. nikkas aint stupid..
As undisciplined as Jr can get he'd be eating enchiladas and smoking weed so much that he'd end up looking like this after a year off:

As of Sept 20th, 2012.......

Although Top Rank and HBO are still a few days away from reporting the figures, Arum said, based on initial numbers they have from satellite services and select cable systems, the fight likely will come close to 500,000 units with a chance to do 600,000.

Bob Arum -- Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. tested positive for marijuana - ESPN Los Angeles

As of April 27th, 2013....

The win over Chavez exhibited several sides of Martinez. It was further proof of his serving among the sport’s best pure athletes in the game. A shocking knockdown suffered in the final minute offered the ability to conquer any obstacle. Finally, the sold out crowd and 600,000 pay-per-view buys pulled in accentuated his growing star power.

You right.. I dont doubt it one bit, which is why I believe the nikka was ready to cashout with GGG and retire.. nikka probably wants to sit at home and eat churros all fukking day while counting his millions.. but Arum saw it coming and was like fukk that.... Faggit crying about what he's worth while Arum offering over tripple his highest purse asking for 1 guaranteed fight extension. :childplease:

I stand corrected.... But most of those are Martinez fans now... Jr got his ass spanked for 11 rounds straight. Then went life or death with Bryan Vera... and still got offered $10 million to fight GGG which he turned down.. If I was Arum I would tell that fukk boi that he can sit and rot until fall 2015

That's all well and good, but you do realize that what Arum is doing is illegal right? Under the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, a promoter cannot force a fighter to sign an extension as a prerequisite to getting a fight.

The Ali Act was made for reasons like this: to protect the fighters from getting screwed over by their promoters and their cheap underhanded tactics. If anything Chavez is the one thats protecting himself, and rightfully so

I'm sorry and I hate the living fukk out of Arum but $10 milly, a 1 fight extension, and you're signed until the end of 2015...and you don't take it?

:what:

Julio looks like a bytch for this :wtb:

I was ready to come in caping for the kid because I hate Arum but this looks really fukking stupid on paper, he can hate Arum all but dammit man.

and no doubt Arum looks like a greedy pig by making the guy sign a 1 fight extension but damn wouldn't you expect atleast 2 fights from a 28 year old kid from July 19th 2014 - November 2015

It's true. Go look it up

What you mean he's not forcing him. He's telling Chavez he can't get the fight with GGG unless he signs in extension. You're not supposed to do that

What part of he does not want to sign an extension do you not understand? :ld:

Once his contract is up he wants to be done with Arum. Why should that stop Arum from making the best match up for a fighter who is STILL under contract with him?

Arum can barely market Pacman anymore from a fighter's perspective signing to Goldenboy/Allah is the way to go.
