They had all the gangsters in the show but its like they never fully went "gangsta" enough imo. It was alot of Margret, Nucky, whiny/side chick shyt getting too much airtime.. Especially since Jimmy was killed offHBO should've made that relationship work somehow. You give all this airtime and character development to the co-star and face of the show and then you kill him off then make the revolve around Nucky

That Margret shyt was because of the writer's strike. fukked up that whole season and then they rushed to close it out

I really enjoyed this show at the time, but have no incentive to watch it thru for a second time. that said, I am currently rewatching the entire sopranos for the 3rd time this week.

Show was wack. I tried to like it. Forced myself to believe I did. In reality, Steve B just can’t carry a show and the writing trying to make him the centerpiece when everyone around him were much more interesting characters was the shows doom. To make matters worse, he was never an actor to make Nucky intimidating. It was fine when he didn’t need to be in the early seasons but when they tried to make him more gangster, I’m an era with real gangsters, just....no.

The thing is, I thought vinyl was a good fukking watch. If that fukking first episode wasn't so expensive and the president getting replaced, I thought we could've got a solid three seasons from it.

Agree with this 100%. You can’t have mob royalty as on-screen characters and make Nucky the centre piece. I understand in the earlier season it might have been necessary but once Jimmy was established they could have found a way to move away from Nucky. But with Jimmy I do remember reading that the actor Michael Pitt was difficult to work with so I’m not sure how much that changed the plans.

There’s always going to be a fascination with Capone, Rothstein, Luciano, Lansky and Siegel. Anyone that knows mob history knows you can’t go wrong focusing on those characters lmao I was so pissed with how they were treated in the later seasons. Always thought they’d transition to Luciano as the main character eventually. But I also recognise some of it was out of their control.

I think I stopped watching after Season 4.

Margaret had SO MANY boring scenes, she became fast forward status.

They had some interesting characters and performances but at some point I just stopped caring.

The 4th Season was one of the best single seasons you could ever watch.

But then they fast forwarded 7 years in the story's timeline, and put out a shorter condensed final season on the heels of what was clearly their peak. I don't understand it, and there's no reason why that show couldn't have had at least 8 seasons total

What's the story behind this? I never watched Vinyl but what made the Pilot expensive enough to be a reason the entire show tanked?
