they just broke people off for a marginal upgrade and there's going to be even greater bottleneck on components and this is before even thinking of inflation
there is literally no way the ps6 will be 500 bucks
I disagree. Theirs different context for the PRO.
1) the pro has novel technology (pssr) in it, they are recouping r and d for new technology that is not being made to scale. We are basically paying to have Sonys version of cutting edge tech. Pssr will be older by 2028.
2.) goes to tail end of number one. The ps6 will be built and priced with mass market adoption in mind. They want to sell 100 mill of these things. The PRO was built with niche/enthusiast in mind and priced as such, for those that want to beta test Sonys PSSR. Sony has stated the ps4 pro ended up being about 20% of the instal base of ps4, that’s what they aim for with the new pro.
2a) there’s no competition for the pro, there will be plenty of competition for the ps6. New Xbox, switch, and steam deck. They will be forced to fit in accordingly.
3.) inflation is currently ~2%, if that holds true (barring trump shenanigans) 10% (2.25% inflation over 4 years) inflation on a 450 dollar box puts us at is at 495. Now if Trump fukks shyt up then yea push that closer to 550. Still not 700.
4.) Sony will mitigate the price being above 500 by having high margin addons.
The base console will be diskless only and the disk drive will prolly be 100 dollars.
Ps plus will see a price increase.
Extra controller will be more expensive as well.
And they will definitely want you to by a portable 2 to go with your new ps6.
So for those reasons, I think a 500 dollar ps6 is feasible. Everyone thought ps5 would be 900 dollars and they managed to get it in at 399 with no disk drive. I could see 449-499, maybe 549.
