Watched episode one and I laughed more than once which is a good clip for a half hour show. Will continue, I have maybe seen 3 episodes of Blackish so this comes off as fresh to me.

After the first two episodes it finds its rhythm. Episodes 5-8 were VERY good in my opinion.

Maybe its because I knew what to expect going in, but the only thing I found cringe was the kids being so disrespectful. I understand being a teen but calling your FATHER a dikk? Call me old fashioned but thats not something i’ve ever seen in even the most liberal of black families.

Other than the over the top disrespect from the kids, its what everyone else already said, its the “Real” Black-ish. And thats not a bad thing. Episode 5 was the best episode, and you can tell its one Kenya felt strongly about the subject matter. I feel like the show would be best served in later seasons by being more of a “fly on the wall of successful black creator in Hollywood” than as “Black Modern Family”. The scenes with the writer’s room, the scenes with Tyler Perry, the scenes with dissecting his feelings on the film he hated, the scenes with Will Packer, Ava Duvernay, Issa Rae, and Lena Waithe. THAT was unique, fresh, and interesting in perspective and execution.

Man one of the jokes that keeps crackin me up is when he was talking to his daughter about him gettin her into USC film school and he was like "you think i woulda put in all that work to get you into school, i woulda cheated like all the other parents but they aint tell me cause im black. Racism is the reason I'm not in jail right now" :dead:
You know that shyt true too. It was probably mad black folk in hollywood feeling left out that they werent included in on the scheme :russ:

He's not a good actor. I feel if they had a real actor this show would be better
That is what always irks me when dudes who create a show put themselves in the starring role...they rarely are good enough actors to pull it off.
All the black actors out there looking for a job and dude has to go the ego route.

Isn't this the exact same show as 'blackish'?
I'll give Kenya credit for taking some acting classes and playing himself this time at least.

didnt want to watch this but my girl kept asking me to put it on and it wasnt bad

first few episodes were silly in a good way

the quality picked up around episode 4 but the earlier episodes were funnier IMO

I absolutely hated the wife. She was annoying af

most of the kids were useless and not funny

I felt like the sensitive son couldve been a better character if they gave him more screen time and better writing

the dad and daughter(whos doing the documentary) were definitely the highlights of the show for me

overall it was decent
