This show overall is not good.
It is a "black show" that is made for a white audience.

Where they have to explain certain things to white people.
The danger with that is it leads to generalization of all black people.
Like the first episode, what is wrong with looking fresh?
I don't like slavery as a punch line, and I don't think it is something that should be taken lightly.

Episode 5 was a good episode though. It explored some themes that was interesting.
That said, I get this feeling that black people are getting mad fun off.
Based on the fact he has an all white writing staff for this show, tells me everything I need to know.

ETA: The kids are blackish. :mjpls:
Breh got issues with color, in all of his shows. :mjpls:

This was horrible! Unrealistic dialogue, hamfisted drama written for white people who don't know black folks. It was offensive, and even worse it's just dumb. I hope it continues to get dragged.

How was the dialogue unrealistic?
Kenya was talkin like he aint even write his parts like he was on set talkin.
And what were you offended by?

There are layers of unrealism here. First and foremost though, is the dialogue voiced by his daughters. Who were they talking to? They were "educating" people about the history of black people and talking about how their home was nice for a black house, which isn't really that nice. What black child talks like that? Unless they are meant to be talking to white audiences. In that case, it alienates the black viewer. It was so weird and cringey. Second, Kenya's rants were so hamfisted in such a short span of time, it was like he was trying to cram years worth of black complaints into 15 minutes of dialogue. It was weird. Black people do vent about white people and racism, but it's not a part of their every waking moment, especially when they are chilling at home with their family and interacting with their white/Jewish assistants. He was more of a a caricature than a person. The irony of him talking about white gaze, when this was exactly what this whole episode was written for. On top of that, while many of his complaints were valid, his point of view is mocked by his wife and daughters, invalidating his perspective all together as if he's some loony not to be taken seriously. It was just really bad writing. No subtletly, no nuance. If you liked it, great, but I really hated this and don't plan on watching any more of it.

Agreed with everything especially the bolded.
The whole explanation of adultification by the daughter.

Even Episode 5 the one I liked was confusing to me. Is he saying that white people give black art a higher rating because they don't want to offend black people? Do black people have to support other black peoples work even though it is trash?

Balenciaga product placement on this fukken show. OMG every fukken episode.

Black children talk to their parents like that? :picard:
Alot of the kids dialogue in general.

Yeah black kids do talk to their parents like that. Usually they get backhanded but that whole fear of the parent been done to death since good times, it's refreshing to see something different for a change. They have a different funny family dynamic. 2 fukked up parents who know they arent good parents and kids who know they arent good parents.
It's different and actually very realistic cause most parents aint good parents

You act like things like "nikka rich" dont exist. Yeah we got money but we aint got real money. If stuff like that hits a spot to you then :manny:
As for all the other stuff about him venting about white folks...have you ever read a thread on this board? :heh: black folk live venting bout white folk if you have to be in an environment with them soon as you comfortable round some folks you can vent to you do it.
I think you were expecting this show to be one thing and it's not what you thought it was gonna be.
The worst thing about this show is that blackish already exist :yeshrug:
