i think there might be an age disconnect between some of the posters. those who are correctly pointing out that taking away privileges is an effective form of punishment are grown coli folks. and those talking about "how can you take away his phone" are probably young coli folks who who are subjected to their parents taking away privileges to this day or they're past that now, but young enough for it to still bother them today.

I agree, knocking on a door should never lead to warning shots, even at night.

again, you and others are arguing that parents should suspend a means of communicating with their children if the child misbehaves and I believe that's idiotic. the parent typically takes the phone away in this age because of it's non-phone abilities like internet and social media. there are other ways to leave your child with their communications device and disable these features. taking the phone away completely is irresponsible.
you need to explain why you think taking a kid's cell phone and expecting them to continue heading to school as if they always do is actively and intentionally sending them down a dark alley in a bad neighborhood in a skimpy minidress after dikk teasing a bunch of rail workers all night

your framing of cell phones : children is trash as hell imo - maybe detailing why you feel that way somehow translates to, as you describe, borderline criminal neglect would help... right now you sound straight up ridiculous

Maybe you have a fuzzy understanding of what logic actually means.

1. His mom took his phone.
2. He could not properly orient himself because he was in a strange land and did not have his phone.
3.He knocked on a stranger's door because he had no alternative.
Logic isn't immutable and it doesn't even exist without context. Maybe YOU have a fuzzy understanding of how logic is conceived. Yes, with what you quoted being true, it is logical to assume there's an imminent threat to tha child in question, IN THA CONTEXT OF

Him being in a majority white neighborhood

Tha effects of white supremacy on western society

White ppl in America having a history of getting away scot free when it comes to victimizing black ppl

However, if what was quoted occurred in tha context of us black men handling business and bringing cacs to task for their wrongdoings instead of passive victim blaming, then it wouldn't be logical to automatically assume imminent danger to tha child.

It's really not an "What if" for me - cause it's clear it because the little boy was Black and they wanted to shoot at him for no reason.

I'm just trying to call people out who want to blame the mom - when the blame lies on the people who shot at this child only.

If the US army decided to NOT give soldiers weapons and communication devices. Who’s to blame if hundreds of soldiers are killed because th y can’t fighg back

According to this story, the kid was almost shot because he knocked on a stranger's door asking for directions. He was forced to knock on a stranger's door for directions because he had no other way to orient himself in the land he was lost in. His mother took away the one thing that may have aided him in determining where he was or could have used this device to call for help.

He was helpless and sought help only to be met with a very dangerous encounter with white people who thought he was a burglar.

The phone makes the difference in this story.

I'm sure his mom is the typical knuckle head bytch. She took his phone away as a form of punishment without thinking about the possible consequences. I remember alotta mother's like that coming up.

:hhh: I swear yall just hate women

More mad at the mom than the coward that shot an unarmed kid.

We live in a context of white supremacy where cacs take Black people to task for their wrong doings yet Black people continue to "do wrong" and draw the ire of white people. The child being lost and having no way to properly orient himself is the core problem, living in a white supremacist society only compounds it. The parent took away a device that addresses the core problem, being lost and needing help.

Besides the obvious that these devils can be evil this story shows me that the mother bought her son that phone for all the wrong reasons. ONLY reason a 14 year old should have a phone is to be able to stay in contact with his/her parents. If you punish them by taking it away take it while theyre home

Payphones were all over the place back then. If he didn't have 25 cents he coulda called collect. I used to do it all the time

to be fair, he was in a residential area where you wouldn't typically find a payphone, even back in the 90s. Most of the people in this thread have no idea what it means to use a payphone to make a collect call, probably too young to remember advertisements for 1-800-collect

read your post again and then read the thread title. Knocking on a door turned into a horror movie for this young man. He sought help because he was helpless.

y’all really arguing over the mom taking the phone away like she knew this was gonna happen, smh.
some of you just like to argue for argument sake because this shyt is stupid as hell and it’s obvious it’s being fueled by your emotions cause their ain’t no fukking logic in this. smh
:snoop:
The main reason to buy your 14 year old a phone is to call in case of an emergency. Other than that what does a 14 year old need their own phone for? That's like buying your kid their own computer to do school work and then taking it away for punishment which prevents them from doing their school work
