I think a lot of people have fallen for the okey doke and take the internet as reality. Posting here it’s like black people are simultaneously an endangered species on the brink of extinction while also dictating any and all trends, having the collective finger on the pulse of culture, and leading the charge for radical change on every level. Not that I necessarily disagree, but you see how those two beliefs contradict the other?

A lot of folks would do well just logging off the matrix for a while and enjoying life. I went to a blues concert last night to support an older black gentleman who has really helped me out a lot…but according to the coli I probably went by to burn some effigies and lynched any black I could find.

Are there hateful people out there? fukk yeah. But I’m willing to work with anyone regardless of color if they have compassion and a willingness to cooperate for a truly egalitarian society.
We all have different experiences though. We see life through unique lenses. The breh I replied to might have seen a lot of hostility from Mexicans, IDK. tbh, I have experienced negativity from white ppl the most, and I have always lived in diverse places.

I was shown love by Mexicans in and out of work in Funkytown. Never had a bad experience with them. I was called a n** by some bytch ass whiteboys driving by in a truck though:mjpls:
To be honest, you can get mixed results from them.

I had a Mexican explain it to me.

Just like how Americans in say Georgia might be vastly different in how they view race than an American from Washington, the same dynamic exists in Mexico but on an even more extreme level.

Seems like the Mexicans from the Gulf states tend to be chill and have a history of actually helping out black people.

Whereas the ones out west are :mjpls:

But shout-out to that actor, I liked him as Rafa in Narcos. He seems like a solid dude and I hope he gets somewhere with this. :salute:

This is why I am careful not to paint with a broad brush.

So in other words, he can't win?
Leave him alone!:damn:

Can't you see the marvel man is standing up for us?!:damn:

Gracias señor :wow:

Don't be fooled.

Black and Brown don't mean the same thing AT ALL.
on the surface it seems critical, but on a deeper look you can see how it is basically: “Look at how much we sold, please invest in us, please accept us”. It’s performative and basically respectability politics at the end of the day.

shyt is embarrassing

A lot of ignorance and knowledge in this thread.. I love my Latinos. I consider them one. Have cousins who are half Puerto Rican. To add to that, get cultured y’all. How people view race does vary in different countries. Personally, I think the concept of race is stupid, but I’m all for my melanated and indigenous folks

Remember the white Mexicans aka Spaniards look down on the brown Mexicans if you lived in Cali then you already know
This is all throughout Latin America bruh… but it’s funny, cause based on the simplest terms, if your watching the World Cup, they need us to look good.

Get out more and speak to folks from other countries. Indigenous, expats, slavery, transplants had a major affect on the world; well outside the states. Fukk, Trinidad has citizens who are technically East Indian.

Tenoch one of the real Mexicans dude knows the history of his people, and has had his foot on Mexicac necks for years. Probably the most militant Latino actor at the moment, he's really on that "Black Love, Brown Pride in the sets again" type of time.
As opposed to somebody like John Leguizamo who is "militant" but hes a white Colombian that sharked Puerto Rican swagger and mannerisms for roles and opens his mouth to talk sideways about Black representation in Hollywood "but what about the Latinos" :mjpls: I also think he was freely using the N word in that movie Gamer like around 2011. I still fukk with Spawn, Tomeo and Juliet, and Carlitos Way though but otherwise :camby:
In High School me and my dawg went to the hot new barbershop in town. The wall behind the main register was full of framed pictures of rappers, comedians, actors, athletes, most of them signed. I looked at John Leguizamo between Big PUN and Dennis Rodman and WENT TF OFF :camby::camby::camby:
HOW YOU DONT HAVE BIG L OR O.D.B. ON HERE BUT YOU HAVE fukkING JOHN LEGUIZAMO UP THERE :hhh: ALL THESE LEGENDS AND YOU GOT JOHN LEGUIZAMO FRONT AND CENTER THIS shyt STUPID :camby:
Im saying all this in front of the wall while waiting for my guy to get his cut. The owner (I aint know he was owner yet tho) walks over in the middle of my rant and starts cussing me out defending leguizamo talking about he a stand up guy and shyt. We were there for another hour and a half, my doggie never got his cut LOL

Considering you’re mexican, this post is lowkey :mjpls:

What’s not reality about your people showcasing anti-blackness in America and your country (look how they treat haitians)?

@BobbyWojak i never do this but why the neg? U know Brazil had one of, if not the largest importation of slaves next the USA… u know a good amount of Carribean latinos have African roots. Regardless of what folks may say or think, it’s facts. How is it short-sighted… everyone gets brainwashed by European thoughts of the ideal race (whatever that is). Look outside our history bruh, there’s a whole world of history and I wish everyone wasn’t so divisive or naive

I called you short-sighted because regardless of your family, country or personal politics, there will always be a material discrepancy between majorities and minorities racially. This will most likely be the status quo until we both are dead, so 'black and brown' 'love for my Latinos' colorblind type rhetoric is counterproductive in the time we have left. I empathize with hating 'race' but in my view understanding and grappling with the concept of race is fundamental to someday achieving greater autonomy and quality of life for Black people, anti-racism and progressive economics isn't enough. You can't ignore it. It's not about being divisive but instead being skeptical, open to collaboration but always putting your people first.

I'm not some kind of militant isolationist, I appreciate other cultures, but there's a line for me, I don't allow my appreciation to cloud my judgment. I remember talking to my boss about this topic and saying there are so many possible pitfalls with broad movements based on anti-racism/equality, but there hasn't been a single time in Black history where some healthy political cynicism/militancy would do us harm. It's always a net positive.

It's just a stupid movie, but the attitude in the thread bugs me.
