nikka the things women will make us do is crazy..me and my homie had plans one day, then we was driving down the street, then we saw two above average lookin women goin into the student union..we both said "EFF THOSE PLANS" and went parked, and went straight into the union bra...now if a above average girl will make us do that, imagine black women having higher standards would do to black men as a whole.

I know everyone is probably going to shyt on him for this line of thinking but I don't completely disagree. I think women in a general sense are a large motivation to what men aspire to. For example, dressing a certain way, driving a certain car, attending/graduating college etc. will attract a particular type of woman. The inverse will still attract women because there's always some woman out there who will take in the scraps out of mere desperation.

I'd agree with this as well, even though I wish it wasn't true.

What these kids tend to think of as the "ideal" black male is basically what they see on BET or in a rap video, and it's what they imitate. It's also what women tend to gravitate towards for the same reason - that's what's considered the masculine ideal for black males. So high school nigs try their best to act like that in order to be popular and get attention from women. Being studious is almost the opposite of how black men "should" act..

I think that's why black women tend to get higher grades and graduate at higher rates. Doing well in school or acting "white" doesn't have the same social consequences for black females as it does for black males.

Its not about being motivated to do something on my own, its that 1000% increase in motivation when theres a fine women in the vicinity...might have something to do with evolution....for example fellas every be working out and your tired...then a nice lil lookin thang in some yoga pants come by...and all of a sudden you give your workout/jog your all

The article posted in this very thread showed that women remain popular at higher G.P.As than black males (although it eventually takes a hit). That leads me to believe that it is your black male friends clowning you...not women.

Just two weeks ago, my graduate organization held a special study session for NPHC fraternities and sororities because their GPAs were so low that it was embarrassing. The average male GPA was a 2.3. The average female GPA was about 2.9. Guess who was actually taking the study session seriously?

When are black men going to start holding themselves accountable instead of blaming it on someone else?

I wouldn't quite exonerate women as a whole. I think multiple actors can be blamed. Men of all racial groups lag behind female counterparts, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that black men are included in similar dichtomy, our schools have longstanding issues on how to teach males. I do think most schools lean towards gynocentric modes of teaching which discourages many boys. This videos makes a more compelling argument than I could.

I don't think there's any real co-relation between popularity and academic performance... because popularity is such a subjective metric...

Is a popular person one who has many friends, or who is generally well liked?

Moreover, the soloution to any problem does not lie in "blame". Black men shouldn't "blame" themselves or "blame" anyone else. There isn't any issue that one gender/race can solve on their own. What is required is further inquiry into the root of the issue, which is almost certainly economic and access related, and soloutions based on the conclusions of serious academic study and review, instead of paradigms built by colloquial observations.
