Damn, those stories are fukked up. :smh:

No way I'd feel comfortable raising a kid on a vegetarian diet, much less vegan. I'm sure it CAN be done safely but it seems way too risky for me, trying to have your kids living off vegetables and nuts...

this is serious business with kids. if Angelina Jolie decides her vegan diet isn't working out, she can change it, and no harm done. if some kid doesn't get the proper nutrition, their growth can be stunted, and there's no way to 'fix' that. and remember growth isn't just how tall you get, but also things like your brain development

again I'm not saying it's impossible for a child to get the proper nutrition with a vegetarian diet. just that it's not easy, or as simple as saying "they need the same as adults just in smaller quantities"

It is actually easier, once you know what to do, because it is cheaper and more pure as there aren't additives and preservatives in these foods. It saves you money because you stay full for a long time and keeps your blood sugar stable.

As far as brain development, nuts and seeds are the PERFECT food for it as your brain is mostly fat and protein which nuts and seeds are high in. It is also high in vitamin C receptors which vegetables and fruits are high in but since your body doesn't retain vitamin C you need a constant source which is why eating foods high in fiber is important as it keeps your levels constant.

We both agree on the same things but I feel you don't NEED meat to get nutrients needed, while non-vegetarians think because they eat meat they are more healthier then non-meat eaters which isn't true. They find the worst vegetarians, and claim being a vegetarian is a problem instead of stating lack of knowledge on how to eat is the problem. Do your thing though.

These people are like 9/11 Truthers breh. They take scientific findings as deliberate disinfo work by the "system".

daze didn't link to "scientific findings". He linked to parents trying weird fad ideas on kids. Feel free to post scientific evidence that meat is an unskippable requirement for kids

Why do you eat meat?. It's for protein. I can eat Beans for that.

Why do you eat fish?. It's for omega-3's and other fats. I can eat walnuts, hemp seeds, and other types of nuts and seeds for that.

Everything else WE ALL NEED so how are we different besides the fact that everything else that WE ALL NEED I get in one meal while you have to go through a whole bunch of shyt to get it. Things like fiber(insoluble and soluble), minerals, anti-oxidants, and phyto-nutrients I get EASILY because they are in the foods themselves, in high amounts as it relates to the specific food being eaten, and absorbed at a rate where they won't cause problems unlike supplements, if you don't take them with the right foods.

yes, clearly vegeterian food is the same as raising your child on homeopathy and soy milk

I don't think you understand the scale/size of vegetarianism out there. people grow, live and die vegetarian

I didn't agree with the specifics of how lotty worded it

people live and die many different ways, but I'm looking for a little more than just minimal survival. I think it's well known that things like average height are directly related to nutrition

These examples are all far outside the scope of proper vegetarian eating. More than one regular pediatrician has told me that a child can be raised vegetarian without any problem so long as the balance of nutrients is proper. The one question they always ask is whether or not the family are generational vegetarians or come from a culture where vegetarianism is common. If so, then they probably know how to do it properly, and it's ok. The problem, as lotty stated, is that most Americans and other Westerners who want to make the jump to vegetarianism have no idea how to do it properly.

Let's not forget that there are significant populations in the world that are and have been vegetarian for a long time, and have refined their diets over the centuries into the modern day. It's not as if vegetarianism is some recent phenomenon. And now, the science is all out there, so there's very little left to debate on this topic. You can create an optimized vegetarian diet that is just as nutritious as a meat-inclusive diet without much difficulty if you're willing to do the research.

It's harder to get complete proteins on a vegetarian diet, much less a vegan one.

Sources of Complete Proteins

The following foods are examples of complete proteins, which need not be combined with any other food to provide adequate protein:

Meat
Fish
Poultry
Cheese
Eggs
Yogurt
Milk

Incomplete Proteins

An incomplete protein is any protein that lacks one or more essential amino acids in correct proportions. These can also be referred to as partial proteins. Even if the protein contains all the essential amino acids, they must be in equal proportions in order to be considered complete. If not, the protein is considered incomplete.

Sources of Incomplete Proteins

The following foods are examples of incomplete proteins:

Grains
Nuts
Beans
Seeds
Peas
Corn

Combining Incomplete Proteins to Create Complete Proteins

By combining foods from two or more incomplete proteins, a complete protein can be created. The amino acids that may be missing from one type of food can be compensated by adding a protein that contains that missing amino acid. When eaten in combination at the same meal, you are providing your body with all the essential amino acids it requires. These are considered complementary proteins when they are combined to compensate for each other's lack of amino acids.

Basically, if you're on a vegetarian/vegan diet you aren't really getting complete proteins, so you have to rely on combining incomplete proteins to get an adequate amount of each type.

Again, I'm not saying that you can't get the protein you need, obviously you can by combining proteins if you know what you're doing, but it seems risky to have a kid on a vegan/vegetarian diet. You mess up and you could stunt the kid's growth, or worse.

If you're a vegetarian you can still get complete proteins from any animal products, so dairy and eggs. No meat required- the proteins are exactly the same as you'd find eating the animals themselves.

Eating lean, red meat and poultry is HEALTHY in moderation as anything else. Clinton, while doing an essentially good thing has simply taken it too far. A diet absent of meat makes you weaker physically and lowers sex drive. That simple. The social engineers are promoting a diet free of meat because they indeed do desire a physically weak and low sex drive public.

:pachaha: why do you see a conspiracy in everything dude?

I just realized this is the second time in the last few daze I called lotty's thinking dangerous

on Bob Marley dying of cancer:

He smoked herb, and his diet may have not been the best being that he was touring all the time so the herb couldn't stop his cancer, but if he ate the herb with some type of fatty whole food like nuts, seeds or avocados chances are his cancer would have been prevented as these foods send the compounds in the herb to the immune system and activate the healing aspects of it, while inhibiting the cancer and pain causing aspects of it.

I always think if he knew how to eat the herb with his food would he still be here and be so postivie?.

I'm sorry but that's ridiculous, and pretty much the same line of thinking that led him to try to cure his cancer through 'naturalistic' methods

How is that ridiculous?

Monounsaturated fat is absorbed into the lymphatic system from the gut which is where the majority of your immune system is located. If you eat cannabis with the foods high in monounsaturated fat as well as protein, which avocado, nuts and seeds are, the cannabinoids go along for the ride being that they are fat soluble, and does it's job in the immune system which in turn helps prevent and cure cancer or pain.

The polyunsaturated fat in these foods also send the cannabinoids to your skeletal muscle which help heal at a specific site location. I have seen for myself how cannabis oil/hash can heal skin cancer when applied directly to a cancer site, but I feel it could have been even better if the oil was taken with these foods I mentioned.

Eating green leafy vegetables along with the herb and fatty whole foods help also as they are high in minerals which get the enzymes going to do their job in repairing the body.

Fair enough. :obama:

Now that I think about it I was thinking more vegan than vegetarian.

:pachaha: why do you see a conspiracy in everything dude?

I swear, somebody could tell dude something completely harmless like "you should wear a seatbelt" and he'd manage to come up with some conspiracy about automobile manufacturers trying to brainwash the masses or something.

humans
These people deny biological, anthropological and anatomical evidence that we are omnivores by design.

I don't have a problem with anyone being a vegan, vegetarianism, or following a Inuit diet. But anyone who says the human body is not meant to consume meat, or the human body shouldn't eat veggies is denying decades of evidence.

These are usually the same who deny the benefits of vaccination, and just deny Western Medicine outright.

I treat them like I treat climate change deniers.

nonsense, type is strawmanning our point by enthusiastically cosigning your vague anecdotes and and then calling us unscientific

it's a strawman because no one said "meat is an unskippable requirement for kids"

it's frustrating for me because I try so hard to choose my words carefully to avoid any confusion, AND I STILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS CRAP

(you owe me a new keyboard)
