I was just considering upgrading my Gold to Plat but it doesn’t seem worth it now.
I got the Amex plat business card and this year I already did the $400 dell credit, brought a printer and some earbuds, got my 200 airline incidental, saved a bunch on car rental with free upgrade , been to 2 amex lounges although one was quite crowded, renewed my global entry, signed up for clear, and I haven’t even used the points yet. Going to save my points for international first class somewhere. After this year I’m not sure if it is worth it.
Also got chase reserve card and it saved me a ton of money on Hyatt. Was able to book a hotel for 35k points a night when the dollar amount was 1,100 a night. Just need to use your points where it’s maximizing the value.

usually it makes more sense to apply separately instead of upgrading since you get more points
Amex has some good offers for restaurants. Went to boqueria today and got like 10 bucks back. They got some good hotel offers too like 200 off Hilton. I notice a lot of point transfer bonuses as well. I might get the Amex gold since their restaurant redemption is 4x. I typically spend a pretty insane amount on restaurants yearly cuz of my job.

How do you know if your status with Amex is good or bad?
I’ve never carried a ballance and they email me every month trying to encourage me to do so
