Maybe someone can help me here

With the AMEX Platinum someone said that you get benefits like a direct customer service rep immediately who can do stuff like

- get you a hotel room when it's sold out
- get you tickets to a concer when sold out
- get you reservations to a restaurant if its fully booked

etc

Is this true? What kinda crazy perks does it come with?

Also, you guys that have the Plat, because of the annual fee, do you just not use any of your other credit cards anymore?

That’s the platinum concierge
You call them with the platinum concierge number
You can do that but it’s overworked and it’s a shadow of its former self right now
The wait times are hours long

:picard: They buffed the hell outta those perks....

If I wasn't completely satisfied with the Gold card, this would be a no-brainer.

Those look like a lot, but does the average consumer (you for example) even take advantage of those?

Eh…

you get free upgrades and 4pm checkout at Marriott and Hilton properties

there are pre sales to concert/events that are exclusive to Amex mbrs

Amex Concierge can sometimes finesse reservations for you. Some restaurants keep tables exclusively for calls from Amex concierge.

you think that’s worth the annual fee hike that went along with it? shyt is at $700 now.

Under normal circumstances, the travel credits and benefits totally cover the annual fee. Hell, the hotel benefits alone can cover you if you're doing it right. My understanding of it is that it's very much a travel card, in that your best shot at getting the annual fee back in value is really just the card itself for travel, and then reinvesting perks/points back into travel.

If you're not traveling a whole lot right now, or don't plan on ever being a heavy traveler, the Gold is definitely a better fit for regular everyday use in my opinion. I'm absolutely cleaning up on the 4x points on food and groceries.
