100+ million ethnic/racial “Minorities” in the United States, and we’re supposed to jump for joy over $9 billion that Black Americans will likely benefit very little from (if at all)?
:jbhmm:

After UKKKraine got $40 billion and counting at the snap of a finger? Interesting.

It's not that many minorities... @Dafunkdoc_Unlimited already broke it down.

It's Hispanics, Blacks, Natives, Asians and Pacific Islanders.

(f) Definitions
As used in this section, the term-

(1) "minority" means any individual who is a citizen of the United States and who is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, a Pacific Islander, African American, Hispanic, Puerto Rican, Native American, or an Alaska Native;

(2) "minority business enterprise" means a firm, corporation, association, or partnership which is at least 50 percent owned or controlled by a minority or group of minorities; and

(3) "minority educational institution" means an educational institution with an enrollment in which a substantial proportion (as determined by the Secretary) of the students are minorities

Ah, so we agreed that using the term minority is more accurate.

Interesting considering some of the views toward home ownership that have been expressed in this forum.

A big problem is black people were never invited to live “normally” in society, so these “normal” solutions will never be beneficial to the whole.

Democrats don't do enough BUT.....they do more than the GOP.

Real talk, if Biden went 100% Pro Black, the Dems would lose half their voters. That's the problem people keep missing. Democrat voters (liberal whites, Jews, some Latinos and Asians) don't want us to get $$$$. They'll happily accept money among themselves but immediately hate on US if WE get paid.

Latinos give zero fukks if some Jews or Asians get paid...and vice versa. If we get money, they all sit out or vote Republican.

It does, here ...

Quickly and broadly deploying capital to communities that need it: The CDFI RRP is designed to quickly and broadly deploy capital to certified CDFIs, a designation for specialized organizations that provide financial services to low-income communities and those that lack access to financing, through a streamlined application and review process. Resources awarded to CDFIs will be used to help distressed communities and people respond to the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic across the country. Importantly, with millions of Main Street small businesses – especially Black- and Brown-owned small businesses – struggling, supporting CDFIs is imperative. CDFI RRp grant funds may be expended for eligible activities such as financial products, financial services, loan loss reserves, development services, capital reserves, and certain operational activities.

The whole point of these programs is to make those solutions available and accessible to those who don't even know they exist.

I have told people numerous times they can get 'free' money every year to cover their utility bills through LIHEAP, for instance, but they drag their feet applying or just don't believe me.

The actual thread title is accurate as Black people/businesses will be receiving a couple billion in funding due to population size and financial criteria.

Why is it a problem for you?
That’s just simply not true as of yet. All minorities will receive these funds. That means LGBT, white women, Asians, Hispanic, etc etc. We don’t know how much money will go directly to black people.

Even if black people get “a couple billion” the entire premise of the thread is false because the OP framed it as if Biden actually provided something tangible specifically for black people.

That's a link in the OP in the very first paragraph further explaining how the whole thing works.....
WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that it was opening the application process for the Emergency Capital Investment Program (ECIP), a new initiative designed to support access to capital in communities traditionally excluded from the financial system and that have struggled the most during the COVID-19 crisis. The program will ultimately invest $9 billion in Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) and minority depository institutions (MDIs), supporting their efforts to provide financial products for small and minority-owned businesses and consumers in low-income and underserved communities. Treasury’s $9 billion investment under ECIP will complement the $3 billion of grants being provided by the CDFI Fund through the CDFI Rapid Response Program and the Emergency Support and Minority Lending Program.

But it doesn’t matter if they aren’t overall interested. No amount is down payment is going to change the mind of a person convinced ownership overall isn’t valuable.

Couple that with low income being the qualifier and it gets even more complex from there. “Free” is subjective because it can be alot of time to fill out forms and follow up.

I’m only speaking my own experience getting help when I was unemployed/low income. It’s a hassle and some workers are condescending.

Biden's Budget Increases CDFI Funding by 23% | Credit Union Times

Opinion | Fannie Mae’s New Racial Bias

"One program would assist black borrowers with down payments. Most home-buyers are required to put down at least 20% of the cost of a new home to reduce the risks of default. Fannie’s plan would effectively require taxpayers to subsidize down payments for black borrowers. Revenue that Fannie earns on its mortgage portfolio is retained as capital to protect taxpayers during a downturn. Under Fannie’s plan, some of that revenue would go to reducing down payments.

Another new program would reduce “loan level price adjustments” for black home buyers. Lenders typically charge higher rates for borrowers with lower credit scores, and Fannie says reducing them can “reduce obstacles for prospective Black homeowners.”

Still another program would “support the reduction of borrower closing costs for Black homebuyers”—for instance, via appraisal reimbursements"

They are being aggressive enough that right wing cacs are bytching and complaining.

They are pumping billions of dollars into programs that help Black folks put money down for homes and start businesses.

Stop being a contrarian and look into policy:pacspit:

I linked an article from the Wall Street Journal about conservative cacs bytching about Black folks getting preferential treatment from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac:comeon:

That should be a sign to you contrarians that these programs are on the right track.

Only solution is to leave...
:yeshrug:

Its been almost 60 years since the civil rights bill, 160 years since emancipation...
How many generations more before we can eat at the white mans table as equals?:blessed:

Wait...

Why the fukk are we trying eat at the white mans table?:jbhmm:

I think individual wealth is easy to accumulate..But as a nation inside a nation, we still think like slaves...Our dream is to live in the big house instead of escape the plantation...

These programs may do what they are designed to do, but the game doesn't allow for us to be absolved as a group, only as individuals...

And in that, there is a compromise to leave our brothers and sisters behind...
"Self determination" is a term we need to add to our collective lexicon in place of "group economics" and "black capitalism"
