Alot of interesting point of views in many of these post. However, mamy of the views on hip-hop seem to parallel the views on other black ppl. Yes hip-hop, more specifically rap popular rap music is heavily influenced by outside forces who care littlw if at all about the people, culture and history. However, i cannot in good conscience admit that those forces own hip-hop. Non black ppl may perceive this but i gotta hope black ppl with knowledge gotta know hip-hop lives in the ppl and shows, crowds, rappers djs not in the videos and song played for pay. Thats the forces we speak of.

It seems vital to expose and enlighten others of the the ills that plaque our music, but why throw away the art due to parts (altho major) being affected with cancer? For black ppl to make the changes many of us are so passionate for on this forum ppl of all types of povs with similar goals are needed. We cant dismiss all of a section of ppl bc we disagree with there actions. When we look at the music being played and the negativity it brings why stop at attacking hip-hop? What makes an rapper spit about nothing but negativity? What makes youth gravitate to a certain type of rap over others? If we want and need them for economic growth, for empowerment, for a stronger black family then we cannot write ppl off bc we disagree with what they entertain. Many time preaching falls on deaf ears no matter how sincere the sermon. Instead giving ppl an example a way to think in which they come to.the conclusion on there own has a lasting effect.

Peace and preciate any and all who took time to read.

Agree with the part about not throwing the art away.

Disagree with the "Save everyone, we're all brothers" piece. Some people are too far gone and meant to be cannon fodder.

I think like @Insensitive said this dudes video is meant to rally troops that already agree with the stuff he kicking. No different than what white equivalents do with their videos. I can't agree with hip hop because y'all nikkas are then special snowflaking yourselves which honestly many of y'all don't have a problem doing. All these people on here that listen or have listened to rap music aren't fukked up but its some big problem? Also y'all gotta stop trying to be slick "cacs" with the words too. Its not that its "NO" problem IMO but how y'all making it seem is similar to the "thugs" and debate on here. Its not that big of a deal as some of y'all make it seem. That's always my view on the issue. Some here make it,like you listen to some rap your life is over and you start selling drugs and shooting cats. Its not like that for the majority at all but y'all act like it is.

You know what's disgusting, I've seen way too many parents introducing kids into this lifestyle. It starts with Whip, Nane and ends with "kill that nikka/fuk that hoe"

The other day I saw this chick with a bunch of little kids stuffed in the backseat pounding Future :snoop: It was really a disgusting sight :scust: Them kids couldn't be older than 12
i was listening to 50 cent when i was 8 and 3-6 at 10/11 i ain't doing too bad right now

I mean...fire existed before we knew throwing gas on it is a bad idea. Do you endorse throwing gas on fire?

Is this commercial hip hop helping or hurting?

It's doing neither.

Are there damaging images in the media? Yes

Are those images the cause for societies ills? No

Will taking BET off the air decrease poverty or imprisonment among black people? Absolutely not

:russell: Blaming BET is the easy way out. BET is a business they are about making money so they give the people what they want and the youth want future and young thug. If BET doesn't give it to them they can just get it from the artist directly, youtube, soundcloud etc. If you have a problem with the music blame the artist but nobody wants to do that that. You have artist who don't talk about drugs and killing all the time but the masses call them soft, corny or call them industry plants. But keep blaming BET instead of the artist and YOURSELVES :camby:

Makes for a good YouTube video and comments on message boards but we all know the majority of our people will more willingly embrace the negative aspects of our society over the positive. They'll also participate in it while claiming to be conscious.

I've personally witnessed #BlackTwitter bring injustices to the forefront of the media...and then in the same week go out of their way to clown entrepreneurial black people to the point that their careers are in jeopardy. We both celebrate successful black people and collectively wish for their downfall so we can Meme and ReTweet about it.

Wordstar HipHop, Bossip, Mediafakeout, BET, etc...its all in the same boat but most of our community privately eats it up while claiming to be against it in public.

@MeachTheMonster @Barnett114 @philmonroe @Insensitive

Are you four saying hip hop has no negative affect on our community?

My stance has always been the same, poverty, parenting, drugs, guns, etc are the problems.

I said lets ban Hip Hop, then what?

The guns are still on the street, the illicent drugs are still on the street, 28% of African Americans will still be in poverty, etc

Here in Chicago, our gangs have been around since the 1960s, the days of MLK and X, they'll still be around music or no music.

Black P Stones chased my uncle in 1969, there was no Hip Hop then.

The main issues from then are still the same issues today, with the main one being poverty.
