:what::what::what:

ricky d had the empire behind him called def jam
while Kane was on some lil starter up label called cold chillen

with that said Kane still had the streetz on smash
and let me reiterate my original statement when this whole process is being created I clearly stated said rapper shouldnt be place into a year only based off his album was released in that said year
this is the perfect example ricks LP drop'd very late '88
Kane LP drop'd before the summer of '88

@Inspect Her Deck @mobbinfms

BTW

>>> 'young world' & 'teenage love' ((even tho Rick play'd Kane in his vid))

So is Slick Rick in 89 > Kane in 88?

:snoop:

U keep exposing u weren't there.

Kane had 89 more than 88 if anything.

U not even making sense. U exposed youself with the Biz Markie comment and when ubrought up Cube writing rhymes for eazy. U caught up in drake bullshyt and think it applies to 88.

Eazy was the star yet u brought up the dude in his crew who wasn't shining like Eazy . Cube shouldn't even b on that list.

An 88 list with Cube and no Flava flav or Biz Markie or Fresh Prince is bullshyt.

Most on this site aren't qualified to speak on 88. If Slick Rick isn't your answer its cuz You Weren't There!

This year is too hard to keep following the "Best rapper on the best album" way of voting for me

I went with Rakim, he had 87 for me and Paid in Full is my favorite Eric B. & Rakim record so he's got 88 too :ehh:

Not to discredit Chuck D/Slick Rick though

And I'm only 18 so of course I just vote off the music, I still do in years I been around for too so it's not like sales/impact is as big of a factor for me

I'll keep it real. I was only about 7/8 in '88.

As a shorty I do remembr it takes two being EVERYWHERE back then for a loooong ass stretch. In school jazzy jeff was the most talked up guy but biz markie was the man getting played on all the boom boxes by the big kids. Biz was THE rapper that got me into rap. Had him on a pedalstool with michael jackson. shyt was serious. Slick Rick was in the mix too.

I didn't fully realize how incredible the rest of the juice crew were until the early 90s. Thankfully radio stations in dc and baltimore mixed in old joints with the current stuff back in the day so I got an opportunity to revisit them. Old school Wednesdays on rap city also helped with that.

As far as Slick Rick, he started the year and closed it out. The Rulers Back (single) was heavy the top of 88. And mind you, he came back after a 2 year hiatus. Then he closed out the year with the album and singles (Children Story, Hey Young World, Teenage Love, Mona Lisa (no video) So I could see him getting the MVP for that year because it was really a comeback year for him

Technically, Young world, teenage love, Mona Lisa -ALL were released and played heavily the year after in '89
It's no questions to me that the great adventures of slick Rick >>> long live the Kane
But the fact that rick songs were bump'd mostly in '89 makes Kane the MVP of '88

No

On the streets , radio and clubs It Takes 2 was dominant.

It Takes 2 had the elders and the kids. Ain't No Half steppin didn't.
Respectfully disagree
again, 'it takes two' was more of a kid friendly party type song compared to 'aint no half steppin' which was an all time street anthem

breh

I was there & and I am like the oldest nikka on here
matter of fact Im from da Bronx, Edenwald to be exact which is roughly several blocks away from where slick Rick lived off to 233rd St.

And I can tell you firsthand summer of 88 through the fall where there was da biggest block parties in the projects of Edenwald or Baychester -Big daddy Kane ruled
and that's saying a whole hell of a lot because a Brooklyn artist getting that much love from a particular area in the Bronx where we started this whole shyt started -when New York five boroughs mainly repp'd themselves

:yeshrug:
anywayz..... we just disagree

so a song that had the streets is bigger then the song that had the streets, kids and elders. :mjlol:

I live on Gun Hill currently and in 88 I lived in Parkckester and my grandmother lived in Harlem. I'm the definition of "Uptown." Biz and Slick Rick were kings in Harlem. Summer of 88 was Freddy Kruger part 4. Edenwald just had Edenwald day just 2 weeks ago. I know cuz I was there.

U say Kane I say Slick Rick but that bullshyt poll says Rakim :yeshrug:
