Kool moe dee and Ll cool j should be on that list

Im thinkin slick rick followed closely by rakim

I often cut back on maximising poll options immediately just in case people make requests for artists they will definitely vote for. That's why 1 or 2 artists that people think should be there are not on there right away until they decide to vote for them.

But of course, most people never end up voting for choices I leave out. If KMD or LL get requested, I'll make the poll option (under the assumption the requestor votes for that person).

U keep exposing u weren't there.

Kane had 89 more than 88 if anything.
You keep exposing you can't read :lolbron:
I didn't ask him anything about Kane in 89.
U not even making sense. U exposed youself with the Biz Markie comment and when ubrought up Cube writing rhymes for eazy. U caught up in drake bullshyt and think it applies to 88.
Why wouldn't it apply?
Eazy was the star yet u brought up the dude in his crew who wasn't shining like Eazy
I didn't bring up Cube.
An 88 list with Cube and no Flava flav or Biz Markie or Fresh Prince is bullshyt.
This ain't a be all end all list.
If someone wants to vote for someone not originally on the list they can say so. Thread ain't about the list.
Most on this site aren't qualified to speak on 88. If Slick Rick isn't your answer its cuz You Weren't There!

didn't fully realize how incredible the rest of the juice crew were until the early 90s. Thankfully radio stations in dc and baltimore mixed in old joints with the current stuff back in the day so I got an opportunity to revisit them. Old school Wednesdays on rap city also helped with that.
Exact same for me too. They were still playing Children's Story pretty regularly in the early 90s on KMEL in the Bay. And Old School Wednesday's were a godsend.

Technically, Young world, teenage love, Mona Lisa -ALL were released and played heavily the year after in '89
It's no questions to me that the great adventures of slick Rick >>> long live the Kane
But the fact that rick songs were bump'd mostly in '89 makes Kane the MVP of '88
Technically then, you should be voting Rick the way we got this set up.

Respectfully disagree
again, 'it takes two' was more of a kid friendly party type song compared to 'aint no half steppin' which was an all time street anthem
Not to mention Kane was way better on the mic :russ:
People seem to be ignoring that in these threads :ohhh:

He didn't drop an album in 88.

U said the same in the 2000 thread about DMX as if gfk was really killing 2000 like X was.

:camby:

U can have the last word. These polls r bullshyt. A bunch of people commenting on shyt they didn't experience is like a virgin explaing sex.

Why do people think that if you didn't experience something then you can't comment on it? That's like saying kids can't have history in school because they didn't live through it

so a song that had the streets is bigger then the song that had the streets, kids and elders. :mjlol:

I live on Gun Hill currently and in 88 I lived in Parkckester and my grandmother lived in Harlem. I'm the definition of "Uptown." Biz and Slick Rick were kings in Harlem. Summer of 88 was Freddy Kruger part 4. Edenwald just had Edenwald day just 2 weeks ago. I know cuz I was there.

U say Kane I say Slick Rick but that bullshyt poll says Rakim :yeshrug:

:russ:

i shouldnt have said kids for 'it takes 2'
i really meant 'aint no 1/2 steppin' was more on that grown man adult shyt cause although both kane/rob base rock'd velvet jumpsuit doing dances BDK shyt was moves were coordinated & other clips he was decked with suit/balleys inna high price expensive loft with classy well dress dime pieces all around
unlike rob doing a simple dance in front of the apllo and a lite skin phat azz shortie rocking spandex looking like a straight chicken shaking her phatty

:yeshrug:
don't get me wrong in all - i love 'it takes 2'
but BDK was on dat next level shyt

your right
rakim winning is a joke follow the leader whole album was considered a major disappointment

BTW
small world .... saying u lived on gunhill rd
cause the very next year '89 was my 1st year at Evander Childs

i cant - these setup / rules are ridiculous
:yeshrug:
i still think BDK had 2 of the top 3 songs of the year
  • aint no 1/2 steppin
  • symphony

Not to mention Kane was way better on the mic :russ:

esp. when its called best rapper alive
