Looks like Rakim is winning so far:ohhh:

Tbh I only really like 5 songs on Follow the Leader:francis:

Thats cuz dudes weren't there.

Rakim nor BDK were on Slick Ricks level in 88.

They were the new jacks yet and old school flow shook up the game.
88 was Slick Ricks year.

Slick Rick was a perfect medium between old school and new school.

Jeff and Fresh Prince were the group of 88 mainstream while PE was UGK. Jeff and Fresh Prince were bigger than NWA in 88 and 89.

Dudes really mentioning Cube wh3n Eazy was the leader of NWA? :what:

Eazy was bigger than Cube in 88 and anyone who says otherwise wasn't there.
Maybe people preferred Cube to Eazy?

You weren't there.

Eazy was the star of NWA he came out first . Eazy had the world thinking he was a teen , that was his appeal Cube came later. There's no way Cube stood out over Eazy in 88.

As for what album u liked better thats irrelevant because as big as Ain't No Half Steppin was Kane did not have singles like Slick Rick

I dare u to say Half Steppin had the streets like Children Story.

Kane couldn't do a follow up single on a classic level like Slick Rick

Kane couldn't do a 3rd single on a classic level like Slick Rick

As for classic cuts that became singles with no video Mona Lisa will always be bigger than Kane s classic 'Raw'

Really good year. Voted kane then switched my vote to slick rick. Then switched it back to kane.

That said if biz markie was on the list I woulda voted for him because "goin off" is a personal classic of mine:francis:

Biz had 88 on smash thats why the list is bullshyt.

Biz had 5 hits that year. Op isn't qualified to make a proper 88 thread.

Dude has cube and Too short but not one of the bigggest rappers of 88?:mindblown:

Biz was bigger than Cube and Too short and Kool Keith in 88

No Fresh Prince no Biz Markie?

But you'll put cube who wasn't even solo:what:

Thread fail.

Ya'll should have flava flav on that list along with Chuck d.

Flav was the stand out of the group and he was waaaaaaay bigger than cube in 88.

But most of ya'll weren't there and wouldn't know that:francis:

This list is really shytty

Biz had the most club bangers that year with Something For The Radio, Nobody Beat The Biz (which carried over from 87), The Biz Dance, Goin Off, Vapors, Picking Boogers.

For the poster who said De La, their first singles "Plug Tunin" & "Potholes In my Lawn" came out summer of 88. But their debut came out in 89.

As far as Slick Rick, he started the year and closed it out. The Rulers Back (single) was heavy the top of 88. And mind you, he came back after a 2 year hiatus. Then he closed out the year with the album and singles (Children Story, Hey Young World, Teenage Love, Mona Lisa (no video) So I could see him getting the MVP for that year because it was really a comeback year for him
