Agreed, Alch has easily been the best producer for the last few years IMO. And he'll prob be the best this year given all the shyt that's coming (new Earl, Roc Marci, Spitta, Schoolboy Q, etc).
Alchemist and Hit-Boy no question have been holding it down for a while now. It feels like they're grabbing hands ( :dame: ) and running through the finish line together for a couple years in a row now.

man fukk that Conway album. I fukk wit him...but this...Spittas ALC album...and Gibbs album all take precedence over GDMM. If it needs to be cooked more...let them cook.

GDMM drops Feb 25th.

So we luck out this month. 3 Fridays in a row.

Tana Talk 4 Feb 11th
Continuance Feb 18th
God Don't Make Mistakes Feb 25th

I understand not being hyped about the Conway album due to the awfully delayed rollout, but the final album itself is fire. If you liked From King to a God you'll like GDMM. They're very similar, but this one is a little bit darker.

It's not that much of a hot take breh. Lotta very respected posters on TheColi saying it besides me. It seems crazy because no one saw it coming 3 years ago, and these albums have been dropped pretty quietly and without much press.

If Boldy and Alchemist dropped their exact same music in the 1990's or 2000's, they'd be considered classic albums by damn near everyone. 3 AOTY contenders in the past 2 years. MadGibbs and BoldChemist are 2 of the best new producer/rapper duos of the past 10 years.

Besides Prodigy, Boldy is easily Alc's best collaborator. How is BoldChemist not an elite producer/emcee duo? IMO they're at least in Common/Kanye and Talib/Hi-Tek territory.

I mean, what else do they have to do to be considered a legendary duo? 2 of their last 3 albums are 4.5 mic albums. Plus their fire EP from 2019, and raw but underrated album from 2013. I'd have also said you were crazy if you told me 3 years ago that Boldy would develop a top shelf catalogue before 2022.

You're a Prodigy fan, so I'm surprised you think this is such a wild take. Boldy in many ways is the closest living rapper to Prodigy, both in terms of style and real life personality. Alc said he's never met anyone that reminds him of P more than Boldy. He said he feels like he's been able to spiritually continue his friendship with Prodigy through Boldy James. He's also basically Boldy's son's godfather just like he was Prodigy's son's godfather.

RIP Prodigy

Most people that don't like Alc right now must just not like him for non-music reasons, I think.

Not sure what there is to front on. He's got styles of beats for basically every lane. You heard the more recent joints he just did for Dre, Nipsey (RIP), and .Paak? They're dope.

I'm not trying to go too far off topic, but with all this music dropping this month, it really makes me wonder how this era will be viewed down the road. We're in an era where there is so much music dropping all the time, that lots of music has a disposable feel. And especially with streaming instead of CDs, it's so easy to just flip a song off and play something else, or listen to music while you're doing literally anything else anywhere you go.

But at the same time, there's a lot of really special albums that have dropped in these past few years, and in the streaming era as a whole. I wonder how albums like Tana Talk 4 (assuming it's of the quality we expect), Bo Jackson, Magic, (etc) will be viewed years down the road when people aren't thinking about all the other music that dropped at the same time.

@Piff Perkins you got any thoughts on this?

I think good albums always shine through. Thinking back to the blog era there was similar talk about quality vs quantity and what could stand the test of time. A decade plus later and you can pretty confidently list multiple albums from that time as classics. Pilot Talk, XXX, Marcberg, GKMC, etc. Not to mention the various dope albums from that time that maybe aren’t classic yet are memorable. I could go on and on about Russian Roulette from 2012, an album I played into the ground. Or a year earlier when Black Up by Shabazz Palaces had me in a trance.

I remember all that shyt. And I’d imagine years from now there will be albums from last year or this year that will come to mind. TT4 could be one, or Magic, or Bo Jackson, Kendrick’s upcoming album, Roc Marci/Alch etc. I don’t remember the last time I genuinely felt there was a “bad” year for rap music overall.

I swear Cole does his best work on features.

his OSOM verse with Jay Rock is one of the most underrated last decade. That song in general

OSOM music video is nice too.

Johnny P's Caddy is all around great; It introduced me to Benny, so it worked from a marketing stand point. I've been playing Tana Talk 3.

When I heard this:
Cole World, the heat'll blast through your speaker
He the last of Mohicans, no weaklings last in my sneakers
nikka want me on a song, he gon' see the wrath of the reaper
I'm prolly gon' go to Hell if Jesus ask for a feature
I'm higher than nikkas and don't need a bag full of reefer
Some see the glass as empty, I see a glass full of ether

I thought about this
Street's disciple, my raps are trifle
I shoot slugs from my brain just like a rifle
Stampede the stage, I leave the microphone split
Play Mr Tuffy while I'm on some Pretty Tone shyt
Verbal assassin, my architect pleases
When I was twelve, I went to hell for snuffing Jesus

100%. At this point they've proven themselves as one of the best producer/emcee duos of all time.
That is a ridiculous claim.

I think it’s funny that TT4 gonna release before GDMM even further lessening my interest in Conway’s album because I already know TT4 will be in my rotation heavy for a while :blessed:

Comparing Boldy James to Prodigy is blasphemy. Such a wild take that I honestly don’t know if you’re just Boldy James at this point :russ:
