couple thoughts:

- i usually avoid these topics cause it's not my money, but something about this article irks me.....think it's cause how the article acts like the movie got pulled from theaters...it's still there, and will probably be there till june.....so it's gonna make some more money...how much, I dont know, but I think it'll pass spidey 3..

- people need to stop saying the movie should've made 'some madeup x amount of money cause it's bats & supe'....while they are probably the 2 most recognizable characters, that doesn't equate to guaranteed 'best selling comic movie of all time'...I say that cause despite their recognition, supe has never been a box office draw like that....and I hate to break it to bat fans but neither has bats....he has 3 box office monster movies and 1 of those happens to be BvS...the other 5 films didn't do eye popping numbers...

- with that said, this movie doesn't change their status: they still are 2 of the most recognizable characters...

Dude, if you don't get the fukk outta here with this bullshyt right here...

Batman is arguably the most popular fictional character in the world, you saying he ain't a draw now??? :pachaha:

bro literally everything about this post is false.

1. "dealing with icons works against them"

this movie made 160 mil opening weekend is purely out of brand loyalty. the exact same movie re-titled darkman v ultraman: dawn of justice doesn't do a fraction of the gross. ask the makers at disney if they have a problem making movies about established icons.

2. "he's introducing his take on those characters....which arent the established characters people know....that's why you see the main complaint being 'that's not the *insert character"

yea, because zach's version of these characters are terrible. in fact these characters PERIOD are terrible. undeveloped, underwritten, and underutilized. they are walking plot devices.

3. "the draw of supe & bats isnt their box office draw...like i stated: they've never been box office draws like that...."

superman the movie was a colossal box office hit and so was batman 89. the nolan trilogy was grossing billions. these characters are both proven box office attractions. even superman returns which looked like dogshyt from the trailers opened up huge that year.

for you to claim you know about comics, your posts show the opposite....to break down the incorrect stuff you've said this time:

1. it didnt make that money off brand loyalty...it made that cause it was a blockbuster movie in march....if it was brand loyalty, it wouldve made more....if these were the characters people knew/expected, it wouldve gotten better word of mouth....and wouldnt have been met with 'that's not the how *insert character* i know acts/behaves/looks/etc'...what does disney have to do with this?...disney uses characters they have created and grown into icons....if you talking comic wise, the characters they've used while being known arent at the level of bats/supe, so they are allowed more leeway with them....cause the expectations are lowered....and lower expectations for characters like ant-man, gotg, iron man, cap, thor, & ss are easier to surpass than higher expectations for characters like supe, bats, spidey, & hulk....

2. all that's your opinion, so it's cool...only thing i disagree about is we dont know what he's gonna do with these characters yet since he's just introduced them in his movie world....ex: this supe has been superman for 2 years, yet you and others expect him to behave/act like the established one of 30-40 years....lol yea that's realistic....

3. incorrect again....bats and supe have never been box office draws like that....3 out of 8 batman movies have been box office monsters, 1 of those being BvS...2 out of 7 superman movies have been box office monsters, 1 of those being BvS...the only other movies of theirs i didnt include that might be considered 'big' cause of the time period they released are 'batman' which made a lil over $400 in 89 and 'superman' which made $300 mil in 79...that's it....also: fukk an opening, the whole run is what matters...

yea, he is one of the most popular, but that doesnt equal box office draw, especially figuring his popularity wasnt built off movies....since you doubting, look at the numbers...5 of his 8 movies didnt exactly blow the box office away...he's had 3 box office monsters (tdk, tdkr, and bvs)....i'll be nice and say 'batman' from 89 was a monster based on the time period....but other than that, nope....same for supe, who is just as popular...

Adjusted for inflation Batman 89 is the second highest grossing batman film domestically. Wouldve made 540 million if released today. Bvs comes in 6th place behind forever and returns. :manny:

fukk that inflation shyt...judge it off what it did at the time it was released...i say that cause not only is the money different, but so is the box office landscape....going by the time it was released, it might be considered a box office monster, but he's still only batting 500, cause the other 4 movies werent....especially figuring they all did less than 'batman'....

Dude, the Batman movies did well, look how many Batman movies they've made. They don't give that many opportunities to a fledging property. And no, Superman is not and never has been as popular as Batman, he is as well known but never as well liked or popular. Look at the book sales, cartoon figures, movie figures, etc since their inception. Batman almost always outdraws him unless there are special circumstances.

It was a monster.. 251 million was huge in the 80s and early to mid 90s. There were only maybe 7 movies in the 90s that made more than batman. Just saying bruh, batman was a huge draw with all the film's except for batman and robin.

number of movies doesnt means shyt...if anything, it shows how popular he is....seriously, you say the batman movies did well, it's not true, just look at the numbers...he has 3 monster hits (tdk, tdkr, and bvs)....and like i said, i'll even throw in 'batman' cause of the time period.....but the other 4 made less money than 'batman', which made a lil over $400 mil...so that means with the change in money and box office, the movies after an 89 movie couldnt beat it money wise (including begins), but yall swear up and down he's supposed to be breaking record after record lol....

as for supe: which is more popular is debatable and not the point i was making bringing him up...the point was despite him being popular, like batman, he still hasnt had box office draw like that...just like batman....

..cause the thing you and others are getting wrong is their popularity isnt judged by nor based on movies....just like even though the majority of x-men movies havent been box office monsters, the x-men are still some of the most popular marvel characters...

Batman '89 - 1st overall domestic, 2nd overall worldwide that year
Batman Returns - 3rd & 6th
Batman Forever - 2nd & 6th

Superman '79 - $500M domestic adjusted
Superman 2 - 3rd domestically that year, $334M adjusted

So it's more like 3/4 of Batman flicks and over 50% of Superman flicks have been "draws"

i said i'd call 'batman' a monster cause of the time (89), but that's about it....the others, no....here go the numbers excluding tdk, tdkr, and bvs:

batman (89) - 411.3 mil
begins (05) - 372.7 mil
forever (95) - 336.5 mil
returns (92) - 266.8 mil
bat & robin (97) - 238.2

how and the fukk are those box office monsters?...even with change in money and box office landscape, later movies couldnt make more than a film that came out in 89....but yall swear up and down he's supposed to be breaking records lol....he's a safe box office draw, not a huge one, there's a difference....

Thats cuz the movies got dumb and dumber bruh. Opening weekends were still huge on almost all of those sequels however.

I agree the marvel stans are going overboard on the whole, it shouldve made 1.5 billion. Well maybe it couldve, but bad word of mouth killed this movie. If it got stellar reviews it would've made it to that mark I believe.... The marvel dudes just want yall DC stans to believe that it failed so massively that there's no coming back. But that's not true. They just need to make better movies. That's it.

like i told the other cat: fukk inflation...dont judge by what if's, judge by what it did at the time...and why do yall keep going off domestic only? go by worldwide...anyway, i listed the world wide numbers, which shows they bat isnt a box office monster like yall think...he's a safe box office bet...and those are 2 different things....

also, superman has had 7 movies...3 have been monsters (including 'superman' coming out in 79 making $300 mil)...that leaves 4 that werent, so he's not over 50%...same as bats...

again:: yall are equating popularity to movie returns, when that doesnt apply....hell, it's their popularity that makes them a safe box office bet...cause studios know even though they might not make a shyt ton of money, they not gonna lose money....which is more important...

why they didnt do numbers doesnt matter and is making excuses for why they didnt do numbers...if he was this draw like yall said, he was supposed to do numbers no matter what....the actual numbers show different...but you know what? it doesnt matter cause he is still one of the most popular figures....cause his popularity isnt based off his movies....again: fukk an opening weekend, look at the total run at the theaters...seriously, what's with yall acting like this the music biz?...it's stupid in the music biz, it's stupid here....

i'm not involved in the dc/marvel bullshyt, so that doesnt bother me...and i usually ignore this type of articles, but this one got to me for some reason...it's whatever though...whether or not i enjoy a movie isnt determined by the money it makes....

..anyway, yall have a good one...i've spent enough time on this....i'll check yall out in the CW thread after i see it tomorrow...

Name 5 movies prior to 2000 that made a billion dollars or 10 movies prior to 2000 that made 500 million worldwide.

Inflation matters and how big a movie was depends on what the standard was when it came out. Saying Batman movies weren't big because they don't reach current standards is dishonest. BvS did a fairly big number but fell below the standard for a huge franchise event movie. That standard was set last year when multiple movies made a billion dollars and 1 even hit 2 billion. If by the end of it's run Civil War hasn't hit a billion it will be a failure box office wise as well.
