How's it a flop at $500M ? WB didn't have anything make that much last year.
It's all relative to how much the film cost. If it really does cost $250 then it would have to make around double that plus you have to add in the marketing budget as well.

Look at BVS, it was so expensive that WB didn't make that much profit from its theatrical run. They will make most of the profit from Blu-Ray sales and licensing. That's the reason for the so called shakeup going on at WB. It was even revealed that BVS was less profitable than MOS because it was so expensive.

Hopefully WB didn't spend too much on Suicide Squad.

TDK just got to a bill and that is most acclaimed cbm ever with the most popular director. This movie ceiling was a billion it wasn't going to get there easy

1. That was in a pre-Avengers world

2. That was without 3D

3. According to BOM, the average ticket price in 2008 was $7.18... it is now $8.58

If Batman can gross over a billion with Bane and Catwoman then his first ever pairing with Superman should have hit that easily, if only for the added 3D boost.

It's THIS version of Batman and THIS version of Superman that aren't clicking on that same level.

But it still made $850M which is a lot. Yes if it was received better it maybe could've maxed at a billion. Plus the main reason the movie had such a great opening was because it released every where at the same time.

I've yet to see a convincing argument that BvS should have easily done a billion

You're on damage control right now so of course you won't see a "convincing argument" :bryan:

Even though It opened bigger than The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, two movies that made a billion without 3D and a larger foreign market :dead:

Batman vs Superman had the worst box office trajectory for a comic book movie since Wolverine: Origins i.e. it stunk like a motherfukka.

So with all of that what would've TDK made? Still probably less than IM3 or basically even. How much more does 3D really give a movie?

Also IM3 destroyed TDKR which only came out a year earlier.

Also, not to take either side in this piss contest, but the global box office is a lot different now than it was in 2008. that should be obvious

I'm really confused as to what your argument is. Mine is whether it got good reviews or not it still wouldn't have came close to Civil war, IM3, or Avengers because The age threshold is a little older than the MCU.

My evidence is IM3 shytting on TDKR with basically identical critical acclaim.

People should stop comparing DC films to the MCU because that battle is already over. GotG2, Spider-man will both out gross the top DC flick guaranteed

Two things:

1. IM3 destroyed TDKR while coming out just a year later

2. If TDK came out today I still don't think it hits IM3

batman and superman are more potentially lucrative than the entire marvel brand.

there isn't a single person that went to see civil war that doesn't know who batman and superman are.
Again this is clearly overrated considering IM3 and TDKR.

I think it might. if all the hype were equal, including heath dying, not to mention it'd be unconverted into 3D more than likely, plus the bigger box office pool
Enough to make up $300M? I doubt it. Plus I think TDK wouldn't get reviewed as well in a post dance off for win climate

I really don't get this age thing you keep bringing up. At the end of the day, majority of these films are PG-13. Plenty of kids go to see these movies. A rated R Deadpool movie made $760 million and would have made more had it came out in China, so the age thing or MCU connection don't hold up.

I mean you say don't see why it was expected to hit a billion but I find that hard to believe. A studio doesn't spend over $400 million in hopes of barely making a profit.

I disagree man. A great flick is a great flick and dark knight still holds up. And yeah I think it could. Dude the buzz of that movie was insane. It was an event film. It made close to 600 million in the states alone.
