Josh okogie and elie okobo are two guards who are expected to be drafted into the nba this year and they both didn’t start fr hooping until 16

Elfrid payton isn’t a top 20 player, but he walked on at UL and people didn’t even know who he was, many say he didn’t even start varsity in hs.

And historically, Steve francis and John starks both were all stars in the nba and started in their teens.

There’s also andre roberson(okc thunder) and jimmy butler.
Though they’re wings.

That’s just off the top of my head, but people under estimate that you can be a good hooper by just being more athletic than others:yeshrug:

This is so far from the truth its laughable. You only really see this with big men. Most guards have been playing for almost all their lives. Because you never played high school doesn't mean you didn't play organized basketball. Its literally tapes of Steve Francis playing since a kid, and he was also heavy on the AAU circuit.

And this skill argument that is being said that basketball players are not as skillful is ridiculous. I've been around NBA players while practicing, the things that they can do with a basketball is mind blowing. Take any player from either sport and make them play the other sport, they both wouldn't be able to dribbling or shoot/score at nowhere near the level of professionals. With that being said, athleticism favors basketball hands down, skill is pretty even.

And really how much skill does it really take to be a goalie?:russ:

Football/Soccer requires more skill and athleticism.

Anyone over 6' dunking is NOT impressive at all.

Really flipping? Y'all gotta be :mjpls:. I know a forty year old dude can still flip. Lol like we literally did this in the hood for fun.
Any body can jump kick and fall on their backs :russ:

Its a reason that it's been said that if other sports in the US wasn't so popular that we would dominate the world in Soccer.

I find it funny that so many basketball fans in here shytting on soccer considering just about every basketball star fukks with soccer as a sport and acknowledges the skill/athleticism needed to play it.

Basketball is about explosiveness and strength. The skill comes in with shooting and ball handling. None of that shyt is easy. But it encompasses a lot of different skill sets. I don't think most soccer fans understand how hard it is to throw a pinpoint perfect pass through traffic to a cutting teammate, in stride, into the low post. Basketball is the DEFINITION of a very easy sport to learn and one of the most difficult on earth to master. You can watch Steph shoot and KNOW that some shyt you and 99% of Earth simply CANNOT do...and he's not some world class athlete. He's skilled.

But I also think that as Americans we aren't as exposed to quality soccer...so we don't see just how hard the shyt is to do.

Soccer is about endurance and control and the skill comes with certain types of explosiveness. Here are two goals that illustrate my point.

Bergkamp here illustrates immense skill and strength at the end. The pass is decent from Pires but his touch, turn and control all are world class...which he then follows up by holding off the final challenge, a show of strength to stay on his feet...many players would have gone down looking for the penalty.

The second is the classic Messi goal. You look at this and see the explosiveness coupled with the skill. Now Messi makes a habit of being explosive...he walks around most of the match then receives the ball and explodes pass defenders either with speed or dribbling. Here he did both.

The issue here is that the sports are opposite sides of the same sporting spectrum. Which is why I think the athletes of those sports have a mutual admiration for eachother. There's nothing wrong with knowing an NBA player couldn't play in La Liga and vice versa.

We spend more money on soccer than almost any other nation and yet we churn out trash. Its not just because of popularity...its because poor kids in America don't play it and our system isn't made for it.

Kids start playing for pro clubs as young as 10 in some countries. Academy systems start training them for the sport even younger, they aren't wasting time in college sports, and for many its the most viable economic option for them and their families. America will NEVER contend for international soccer glory until poor black and latino kids are playing the game in droves.

To reach the elite level of any sport you have to start early.

Golf
Tennis
Track and field
Boxing(imo the hardest sport to master)
Golf(second hardest)
Baseball

Basketball and soccer are no different.

I also think alot of people on this forum ( not you specifically), equate basketball to dunking.

Ex. ODB jr is a special athlete. He was an excellent soccer player. Football speaks for itself. There's is also video of him dunking the ball on a court with ease. However ask him to shoot the ball and things get awkward.

Basketball requires more skill than alot people give it credit for.

Black people always get the "he's a raw athlete " " he's a beast" . White guys get "cerebral, skillful " tag.

I think its plausible to say if racial dynamics were reversed we would get alot more people saying basketball is more skillfull.

My guy, I understand your POV, but I think the fact of the matter is, in many cases, it applies.

Who is the white Russ Westbrook? Where is the white Lebron James? Where is the white Anthony Davis?

You never heard anybody call Kyrie Irving a raw athlete or a beast. Same with Chris Paul. Same with Steph. Why pretend like there aren't and haven't been black athletes who, physically, are athletic freaks?

In general, if a white boy is going to make it, he's going to HAVE to be cerebral and skillful, 'cause he damn sure ain't going to be great, because of his incredible athleticism.

Also, Lebron's IQ is ALWAYS complimented, and Russ's isn't. ...... for good reason.

I totally agree which is what I put in the first part of my longer post. Basketball is an absurdly hard sport to master especially the skills of passing and shooting...just about anyone over 6 ft and half-way decent calfs can dunk.
