funniest thing is it unstabilizes our relationship with them because for a longest, they had no excuse to break the agreement for military spending with the US. They were obligated by treaty to rely exclusively on the US government for military defense. Now that everyone keep posturing, they can finally invest in real defense and America can't be bothered to check them because of Russian Aggression.

They weren’t small clashes. Calling them small clashes would amount to calling Russo-Japan war a small clash. People talk about the Russo-Japan war which Japan won but always want to disregard the 2 that they lost to the Soviets.

How’s the 2nd Sino-Japanese different from a lot of wars in recent times? That’s like saying there is a huge elephant in the room during Korean War since British forces achieved the biggest feat in the war & it wasn’t an American war.

Japan has always had a great navy but its invincibility is overstated. It benefits more from geography - than any type of invincibility. Japan is basically the UK of Asia since it’s a bunch of Islands thus making it extremely difficult for any to invade. And it would require a lot of amphibious landings hence countries don’t try it (think Normandy multiplied by 20).

There’s a reason why the US decided to nuke the country to break them cos invading would millions of American lives. Normandy was a total disaster during world 2 & they had to use human waves. And they weren’t even fighting the best German forces cos Hitler sent almost 90% of them to the eastern front against the Soviets. Without that it would’ve been worse. So, with the disaster in Normandy still fresh in the mind of the US generals - nuke was the better option for Japan to save lives. And not cos Japanese people are some super human being.

Geography iS also their biggest weakness ..most of their main island is mountainous with few fertile valleys in between that are suitable for farming..probably why a large number of their population is based around Tokyo..the KANTO plain is the largest plain and its not that large for that amount of people. It's why Japan has to import alot of their goods..very few natural resources.
They also sit on the edge of major earthquake rings if I'm not mistaken...they have had some major earthquakes in their history.

Hitler was hesitant in invading the UK during WW2 for the same reason. Britain has never been able to conquer Ireland for the same reason (Ireland doesn’t even have a strong military). If Madagascar in Africa were to have a good navy by tomorrow - most countries will shy away from invading it due to geography. The epic disaster in Normandy during WW2 is a good example to look at & that’s not even a fraction as bad as Japan. Invading forces would be sitting ducks to be toasted on the sea.

I saw a video a couple of weeks ago released by the Chinese military where their soldiers were shooting at targets. Looked like a standard military drill video until someone pointed out that all the shot placements on the targets had "keyhole" shapes where the placement was a slit instead of a round hole Which means, the bullet wasn't travelling in a straight line and tumbled through the air which makes it more likely to miss it's mark and leads to malfunctions in action.

Between Japan and China when it comes to technology, Japan is whooping China all day every day. Their manufacturing capabilities are renowned for quality while the Chinese are out here putting out guns that can't even shoot straight Not surprising when you remember China routinely manufactures cheap crap, have people who fall through elevators, have people eaten by escalators, have shyt they launch into space fall back to earth uncontrolled, etc..
