one of the GOAT scenes on the wire :wow:
For me, it's the best season. The story-line was perfectly put together. With the other seasons, though great, each had a moment or two where I was just like :why::shaq2:.

I didn't like how he got Marlo the connect when he was locked up. :camby:

But the Barksdale Organization :blessed: Although I prefer String over Avon by a slight margin :manny:

From Avon's position the long game was his best choice, he had a long bid to do and wasn't earning (as he asked Marlo to drop off 100K to his sister), so better to deal with the devil you know than the one you don't, so at least let it go to someone who'd be capable of handling the Connect. Avon also probably thought the Connect would go back to him eventually as he figured Marlo wouldn't last that long anyway (which didn't) and went to his trusted lieutenant, Slim Charles in the series finale. So when Avon gets out, guess who will get the Connect back?

It won't be Monk, tell you that much...

Avon, Wee-Bay, Omar, Mouzone, Slim Charles, Cutty, were the last generation of true soldiers and Avon took the arrest like a true gangsta and gentleman, not sacrificing his men, nor the lives of police as he knew his run was up. That's what a good King/Leader does...

Avon/Stringer reminds me of Ace Rothstein and Nicky Santoro in Casino, strained relationship due to ego and of course money....

Stringer was too smart for his own good, given the right environment he could have probably excelled in politics or legit business arena(as the Wire tends to demonstrate time and time again with nature/nuture). Towards the end, he became a bit delusional, as his cool and business-like facade completely crumbled when faced with Clay's swindling and reverts right back to ordering a green light on Clay Davis like a Domino's Pizza...

The foreshadowing in this scene is amazing, "Locked Up" by Akon playing in the background while Stringer is in his own prison while contemplating on how to get Avon sent back to one...

What was it that was said on another great HBO series, ah yes....
"You can't be half a gangster" - Jimmy Darmody

Stringer tried and failed.....Avon just was and hence his legend will always outshine Marlo who was yesterday's news...
