What do you mean?

Stringer wasn't a snake but he thought he was smarter than he actually was. Even from the first episode you could tell he didn't like deangelo & was waiting on time to take him out. Deangelo snitched but didn't go on record & was gonna do his time but stringer still had him popped because he thought he could still flip.

He also made the grave mistake of trying to play omar against brother mouzone, it almost worked but it backfired. And as viewers we could tell a mile away clay davis was playing him but he couldn't see it 'till the end.

I will give him credit, avon had the power & the money to walk away from the game and go legit. He was trying to steer avon in that direction and maybe if things would've worked out with clay it could've been possible. But the way marlo took over with prop joe playing both sides sent avon into a rage. That's how their relationship went sour, he viewed stringer as being too weak for the game.

Prior warning - Forgive the rambling nature of this. I was thinking about this after I discovered the show earlier this year, so everything might not make the most sense.

So I agree with you about most of it. And Stringer was going to die regardless of what happened between him and Avon b/c of his own stupidity. it's funny, the first time I watched it, I hated Stringer. I thought he was cold and manipulative and I couldn't wait for him to go. the second time around, I had more sympathy for him.

I guess my question was more along the lines of how they should have rebuilt the organization after Avon got out.

Avon and Stringer reached a point where they just had different views about running the business and different goals in life. Avon even said that he didn't expect to live as long as he did. As a result of that and his prison stint, I think that he had a tendency to be more reckless than he should have been or even would have been before he went away.

I think one of their biggest mistakes was trying to go back to way things were before. They were operating in a different climate with different players. I don't think Avon realized (or was willing to acknowledge ) that fact until the end. The towers (his main territory) were gone, his supplier has changed, etc. Now I do think he was right to want Marlo gone, but he didn't go about it the right way.

It was a mistake for Stringer to go back to the number two. You can't be king for a year and then go back to what you were before. I think that if they were smart, they would have moved Stringer into a new position that was separate from teh drug trade. Since he was already running the legit businesses, that's what he should have focused on. That way they would have their streams to launder the money like they needed and they would have had a clean business partner. Basically, he should have become the bank like Freamon predicted he would. But all this back and forth, one foot in one world, one foot in another wasn't good for any of them. But it would have been smarter for him to make that "break" let Avon run the empire as he wanted to, heck Slim Charles could have been the number 2 under him. If Avon wanted to split with Prop Joe, let him. Stringer should have built a team of people loyal to him, maybe start with the guys who weren't "hard enough" for the streets, and gone legit.

I did feel bad for Stringer after Avon turned on him. After Avon got shot in the failed attempt on marlo. Like, here he goes trying to check on his friend and Avon basically craps all over him. I also felt bad for him after Clay screwed him over. That's a hard blow to the ego.

I hope that made sense.

Yeah it makes sense. Avon came out a savage. The end of their relationship happen when avon told him to shut up in the car when he was talking to slimm charles about being the muscle. Stringer went about everything wrong & he did come off as a sad character towards the end because everything around him failed. But a lot of it was his own fault.
