Smh

I mean, to be objective, in her interview, she did said she had Trayvon's mom/people come in for an early screening to approve so on that end, cool. But artistically, I just don't get it I guess. She says she wants to contribute to changing people's lasting impressions of Trayvon being some unruly boy who got into a fight but it just feels.....cheap.

Everything mentioned was adapted from the book.

I’ve read the book, which theorizes that the Indian caste system, Nazi Germany and American racism are all connected…not by racial discrimination but by a strict social order that benefits the ruling class. It’s an academic type book, so Ava dramatizes it by creating a story about the author struggling to write the book itself.

The movie is heavy, contains scenes of the middle passage, lynching, Nazi concentration camps, and disgusting things the Dalit people have to do. It weaves all these separate ideas into the author’s own tragic story. In the book, Trayvon Martin’s death inspired the author to think about American racism in a different way, so it’s not surprising it’s included in the movie.

A trauma cinematic universe. Wild.

The fact that this film is being criticized, dismissed, etc shows how much progress has been made since the 2017-2021 era of trauma porn and mediocre melodrama being elevated. For too long we had to deal with a lot white executes seeking out questionable work from weak black creatives to ride a wave/narrative, and white critics too afraid (or full of white guilt) to to dare say anything about it. All while social media and even some creatives argued white people had no place to criticize any black work. It was an anti-art movement and I'm glad it's dead.

Ava hasn't made a good film since 2012. At this point she's less of a filmmaker and more of an agenda setter for gate keepers who have ensured she get paid and rewarded despite rarely recouping any investment. But with the tide turning, Origin did not have studio backing. It's completely independent because the white moneyed interests have moved onto other waves to ride.

One movie, even blind pawgs are tired of them fukking crackers, and the other movie a Coli breh got that wakeup call on the train.

See...here's my issues with movies like the one posted in OP, it's propaganda to welcome a facade that comes with PAWGing on both sides, but never focuses on the stigmas, the culture shock, and the issues at hand that will never end because of society.

As a marsupial that tried the PAWG thing, most of these modern movies concerning the shyt is dead pan bullshyt as they exclude the following:

  • Judgement from the white family
  • Vindication from the black family
  • Tone deaf jokes
  • Odd comparisons (durr durr you sound like Ludacris :krs: )
  • The ASSumption (you must got a big dikk..."I'm blessed but no mandango/Lex Steele blessed")
  • Fetish tropes
Its obnoxious and a cry for validation, breeding purposes, and further destruction of black families because the clock is ticking and 2050 is around the corner IYKYK.
