Saw the trailer for this while watching American Fiction (good movie), seems like the movie will be about The Warmth of Other Suns (great book) using an anthropologic style.
Not sure about Duvernay’s directional choice to use Isabella Wilkerson’s (the author) real life relationships as a way to weave the stories and information within the book. Seems like it’ll be a bit forced. And considering what the Warmth of Other Suns addresses, the beginning of the trailer centered around Wilkerson and a white love interest threw me off.
Either way, hopefully she does the book and what the book covers justice. She did a great job with 13th, but I suppose that wouldn’t carry over into a theater setting. But she also did a great job with When They See Us.
