Unemployed ATL transplant. Got fired because I wasn't a good "cultural fit".

Bachelors and some grad school. Been sending out apps all month 24/7. Only two calls from BS recruiters. I had to take my pic off LinkedIn just in case.

It might be time to move back home. These cacs are really trying to phase us out. Yet my Mexican neighbors seem to be chillin. :manny:

Atlanta gave me the same treatment. The reason why I left in the first place. Going to a job fair with 1000 Black folks, no white folks told me all I needed. This place is full when it comes to Black folks. I wasn't welcomed. I had to bounce

Exactly, 1000 folks for 30 jobs let's be real with y'all. This is one of the reason why I'm looking at the DMV and other places for work.

:russ: I been had been saying this. There are very few jobs for people who want to do work on professional level. The jobs they do have they cater to folks who aren't even here. I got a couple recruiter friends for tech and business. They struggle to find people to fill those roles, due to the nature of companies down here.

You can't just move here wit no job, when people here are still struggling to get one and they been here.

Folks just don't understand this and black folks having more small businesses ain't gonna save all of us. Cause at the end of the day those big multi national companies are the ones that do the mass hiring of educated folks and pay the large 50k to 200k salaries. Thats just real talk.

I know latins, africans and asians who got busineses. But even there they paying their folks chicken scraps and the people they employ are basic labors and non degree having folks.

I never bought into that black mecca sh1t and I'm doing ok... I know I'm just lucky and I'm running on borrowed time tbh.

I live in Atlanta and I never understood it neither. It is the black mecca just for people trying to rap or sing i can tell you that.

Im terrible at networking :unimpressed: I can be quite awkward, and I don’t talk much. I honestly need to join my alma mater ATL chapter, but again, I suck at networking. I honestly know I’m on borrowed time down here.

As soon as my daughter gets a bit older, I’m taking my talents back to NC or TX. Atleast in NC, I’d be around family if I were to ever have a hard time finding work. My hometown and surrounding areas are booming with work now, as well; especially in my particular STEM field.

Everything seems nice and all in Atlanta cuz of what people see on tv, but it's just like any other city. They not gonna have more opportunities cuz it's a black mecca. That guy who has a masters gonna have to do something or move to another place unfortunately. Atlanta was cheap and kind of still is compared to other places but I'm sure it's getting expensive as it gets more popular. So more population means less available jobs. With a masters in finance, fast food should be the last possible option. Plenty of big corporations in Atlanta and finance is a vital part of the economy. Gotta be real tough out there to resort to burger flipping.

The really scary thing is that first person. Masters in finance from a top 100 business school (University of Georgia's Terry College of Business) in Atlanta and has to flip burgers is just crazy.
Man that shyt took me back to 08-09 :merchant:

Livin in an extended stay motel and workin at Wendy's with a master's in finance?? :towelmax:

I hope this breh has some kind of plan to get out of Atlanta...with those qualifications he shouldn't have any trouble finding work on either coast. Even as an entry-level local or state government employee. There's so many lower-level financial analyst jobs that municipalities on the coasts are having trouble filling because the pay in the private sector is so much better. Sometimes you gotta take a step back to start moving forwards again.
Just anything even remotely related to his original career path. Things will only get worse the longer he stays at Wendy's :sadcam:

Prayers up for this breh for real :humbled:

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
I wonder why more people with degrees who have to settle for entry-level work don't become bank tellers. Theres a bank on every corner, I feel like they are always hiring. I did it for a couple months...looks better on a resume than fast food or department store. And if you get "stuck" there you can be a financial consultant or branch manager within a year or 2...

People were giving me this advice.

I ain’t gonna lie, this article is depressing. I feel for breh with the MFin. Though, he should have been a bit more discerning about the industry in Atlanta. Cities with a smaller finance scene, especially in the south, are going to be SUPER selective and super white with who they bring in and it really is about who you know. He should’ve relocated to Charlotte.

Yep. Though, I know a lot of places that don’t consider anything less than the top 25 worth a look.

Exactly. He should’ve known his opportunities would be exponentially better in Charlotte. I would’ve also recommended that he had sat for the CFA but his work history is spotty.

But the point about Charlotte is spot on which makes me question the brotha a bit. A lot of these people are book smart but they don’t have common sense. Which is why some of them are still struggling to get jobs, tbh.

Charlottes become a heavy hitter in the banking industry. If you’re in the South, that’s where you need to be, not Atlanta.
Everything you wrote is 100% facts.

We didn't get much backstory on the breh, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was the first generation to go to college (or pursue a career in finance) in his family. Outcomes like his are unfortunately more common that we'd like to admit when that's the case.

Sticking around in Atlanta with his qualifications was definitely a rookie mistake. He probably (naively, and with reinforcement from family & friends) assumed that having done all that hard work to get that master's degree, he'd be in demand no matter where he went.

He should have moved to Chicago, NY or London and made some good bucks and then moved back to ATL.

Ain’t no way I’m going to a good school and flipping burgers after. I refuse.

But I don’t want to sound ignorant. I don’t know his ultimate situation.

Off his masters alone he could move to any major city and make a minimum of $55k being a teacher.

Atlanta's job market is very competitive since employers have no less than 10 very good to elite universities in the metro to select candidates from.

You really have to stand out in terms of education, experience, networking and interviewing skills to land a good corporate job there.
