Atlanta is known as a ‘Black Mecca.’ Jobs data tell a different story.

No offense but Atlanta never sounded like a good place to begin with especially listening to outkast, goodie mob and etc. Always had the sense that all the hype about it coming up into this mecca didn't translate into it being some come up place and that place had issues.

Hard skills > Soft skills.

I visiting Atlanta now. Yesterday I took Marta to Five Points and walked north down Peachtree to Midtown. U can see the poverty. As a Chicagoan, I know a FACADE when I see it. Breh better get his CDL HVAC or IT Certs. White daddy cant/wont take care of us anymore.

Yep, same thoughts here. My brother would hype that shyt up back in 2007 and I knew he was bullshytting. Something just doesn't sit right with a city that would year down all its projects and give homeless people one way bus tickets to get out their city. It doesn't seem like a place to move to without a plan or being broke in.

I’m about to make a thread on this.

This is the biggest cheat code. I got my current gig at a private equity firm from being in a summer league with a Managing Director that I played against. He invited me to the office and we just chopped it up. Hired me. Didn’t even interview.

Do it. That sounds like some good advice

This is funny to me because literally everybody I know that moved down there eventually came back because they couldn’t find decent work. I tell them the same shyt I tell y’all, if you can’t make money and stay out of nonsense in Chicago then anywhere else won’t be any different.

nikkas visit ATL and see / hear how cheap it is to live out in area but COL doesn’t matter if you aren’t making any real money.

Same
Every nikka I heard that went to ATL said it’s rough

Meanwhile I could transfer at my job and go live in Charlotte right now

Great article, keeps things in perspective. Never think this can’t happen to you. It’s definitely all about who you know, so I make sure I network my ass off. I work In The banking field but have relationships with executives of the biggest banks in the country and they constantly try to recruit me. My clients are executives from major companies and law firms and I take them out for drinks and food every once in a while to keep my name fresh in their memory. And like someone said, you need some WHITE PEOPLE connections cause they will put you on like a muthafukka. I know you coli militants ain’t down for that though :yeshrug:

if you cant make it in your hometown you arent going to make it in Atlanta or anywhere else. You cant run from being black in America and that comes with being underemployed and struggling. Put all this energy in trying to kiss white folks ass for crumbs to getting reparations.

This is false
Certain places it’s easier to find jobs
It’s why I moved to Phoenix on a whim in 2010

Yeah some places are better for folks. A lot of folks from NYC got tired of struggling just to say they lived in NY and headed down south for a decent standard of living.

I’m not reading through this thread. This is fake news. A nikka can’t argue with me cause I live in the heart of Atlanta and a professional myself. This shyt ain’t easy up here, but Atlanta rewards those who hustle. You gotta network and just have some hustle about you and the sky is the limit really. This is for the business side and the street side. See so many black people getting money up here, that you realize it’s YOU that’s the problem if you can’t get it how you want. Cause Atlanta has opportunity, that shyt is not a debate

THIS! I’m in the logistics field myself. Started working at a logistics company in the call center making 12.75 a hour, at 27! But I didn’t bytch, I networked and worked my ass off. Made manager in 6 months then got promoted to a cushy ass sales position 11 months after. Going to break 6 figures this year for the first time in my life.

From what I see with my fellow black people in the office, they don’t hustle. They come in, do the bare minimum, and go home. And they act shocked when they get passed up for promotions. You can’t be a “real nikka” in corporate America, you gotta work 2x as hard to get half the praise.

I have NO DEGREE, straight college dropout. And I’m never going back. But now thanks to the networking I do in real life and on linked in, I have recruiters hitting me up every single day, offering me a higher base pay than what I’m currently making.

If you move here anywhere with no connections or job lined up, you’re pouring jelly over yourself
