THIS! I’m in the logistics field myself. Started working at a logistics company in the call center making 12.75 a hour, at 27! But I didn’t bytch, I networked and worked my ass off. Made manager in 6 months then got promoted to a cushy ass sales position 11 months after. Going to break 6 figures this year for the first time in my life.

From what I see with my fellow black people in the office, they don’t hustle. They come in, do the bare minimum, and go home. And they act shocked when they get passed up for promotions. You can’t be a “real nikka” in corporate America, you gotta work 2x as hard to get half the praise.

I have NO DEGREE, straight college dropout. And I’m never going back. But now thanks to the networking I do in real life and on linked in, I have recruiters hitting me up every single day, offering me a higher base pay than what I’m currently making.

If you move here anywhere with no connections or job lined up, you’re pouring jelly over yourself
Congrats on your job.

Is the turnover that bad at that call center job that you made manager that quick, that is almost pretty unheard of unless you have supervisory experience or your connections linked you in. Well I shouldnt call it unheard of cuz i dont really dont know the dynamics of that company and structure. You really leveled up tho, I wish i was into sales , always wanted to try it

I ain’t gonna lie, this article is depressing. I feel for breh with the MFin. Though, he should have been a bit more discerning about the industry in Atlanta. Cities with a smaller finance scene, especially in the south, are going to be SUPER selective and super white with who they bring in and it really is about who you know. He should’ve relocated to Charlotte.

Yep. Though, I know a lot of places that don’t consider anything less than the top 25 worth a look.

Exactly. He should’ve known his opportunities would be exponentially better in Charlotte. I would’ve also recommended that he had sat for the CFA but his work history is spotty.

But the point about Charlotte is spot on which makes me question the brotha a bit. A lot of these people are book smart but they don’t have common sense. Which is why some of them are still struggling to get jobs, tbh.

Charlottes become a heavy hitter in the banking industry. If you’re in the South, that’s where you need to be, not Atlanta.
Raleigh has experienced more growth and is cheaper

This is what people don't get.

Just getting a job isn't the only decision. What if you lose it, how easy is it to replace it. These are things smart people look at.

Atlanta is a super rare city. Atlanta is maybe the only city in America with every type of Black person but in silos. That's damn near impossible to find in most of Black America

Most complaints about Atlanta is almost always two items for Blacks

1. Jobs
2. BW can't find a man that fits what their liking is. Just a good fit in their eyes. Obviously this isn't the case for every BW but is for many.

Big Facts.
Atlanta is unique in that it has every type of Black person there is.
That's why I liked it and moved here with my fiance three years ago.
But we moved to Atlanta with no jobs and no connections and even with 10 years experience in my field (mental health), it was my longest period of unemployment ever. (My fiance is a recent Caribbean immigrant and could only get part-time retail gigs)

I ended up changing careers on the fly into the tech field.
A brother I met through networking put me on to an entry-level IT job. I later got replaced with an Indian but the experience helped my resume.
I had another long run out of work and just when I was about to give up a sister who's an IT director picked out my resume and gave me a shot.
A year later I'm moving up to a mid-level job and down the line I see more opportunity.
But thank goodness I had money saved up or the stress early on would have eaten me alive.

I second what everyone on this thread has been saying that Atlanta is far from a Black Mecca and coming here without connections is a recipe for failure. The Black people who do well in Atlanta just have regular jobs.
I notice White people seem to be over-represented in professional/managerial jobs while Black people are over-represented in working-class and minimum-wage jobs. And it's crazy to me that Indians who just came to USA are getting high-paying tech jobs while so many of our people either have average jobs or nothing.

I’m about to make a thread on this.

This is the biggest cheat code. I got my current gig at a private equity firm from being in a summer league with a Managing Director that I played against. He invited me to the office and we just chopped it up. Hired me. Didn’t even interview.

you move in :mjpls: circles what's the demographics of your summer league?

I’ve been in the Atl almost two years now and the poverty and homelessness is something else. A combination of picking shytty majors and a focus on Entertainment careers has really held back the black population here. The burger flipper guy is an anomaly, he SHOULD be able to find work in finance even if it’s as a bank teller. People need to learn real life desirable skills. Healthcare, trades and Stem right now are in demand fields. Stop trying to be models, rappers, ig comedians and actors.
.
I wonder why more people with degrees who have to settle for entry-level work don't become bank tellers. Theres a bank on every corner, I feel like they are always hiring. I did it for a couple months...looks better on a resume than fast food or department store. And if you get "stuck" there you can be a financial consultant or branch manager within a year or 2...
Hell he could work at a call center for a financial service company. They usually pay between $15-$20 an hour.

I know that wage doesn't fully reflect or compensate his skillset but it's better than flipping burgers.

Indians come here and get the hookup like crazy

but the worst of it is, if you're white and don't mind being around black people, Atlanta is your oyster, you can literally write your own ticket

Call center turnover is notorious. I did it when I first left school. I got promoted six months in. I left after 18 months though. A cat I came in with was a supervisor within a year and the other one was a manager of his own team within a year. Not unbelievable at all. Nobody likes call center work if you can stick with it you’ll get promoted quick. It’s a suck ass job though.

As someone who's somewhat up in IT, I think this might be where I might have to cut this one off at the legs. I manage a large number of Indians.

I am a firm believer America should do a much better job getting it's natural born residents more into IT and not just the nerds from successful families.

Those Indians don't come broke and off the plane and white folks are like, here, a job.

8 out of 10 of them come to American with the EB3 visa and most have many years of experience and tremendous talent and an International company giving them that visa is the ultimate job offer or opportunity that most Indians in IT dream of. So when they come, they were already doing that job in India and in some cases for that company or were doing it from a previous company.

India President in the early 90s said India will lead in tech and create more IT professionals than anywhere in the world. At the time, it was seen as a joke but it's serious business now. It's like playing hoops and being Black. Everyone knows it kinda a way out but the difference is for us, hoops is really a dream, IT is a reality.

While there are a lot of meh talents in India in IT, there are more stars than usual. More than I seen in the states. To shyt on Indians wouldn't be a fair assessment in my opinion. That's like cacs shytting on Blacks for being good hoopers as if we weren't shooting in the fukking gym.

IT is a way out of poverty there but for many, its a way to more riches as many come from middle class to upper middle class families.

As for whites in Atlanta. Probably the best city in America to me for them. An abundance of jobs. SEC country. Most love Trump so racism is right up their alley and they don't have to pretend they like being around Blacks cause they don't which they do in Northern cities.

An abundance of c00ns who tap dance for security so they always feel comfortable.

Blacks have their own shyt here so the begging is at an min as it's not Milwaukee where everyone Black is broke af and whites gonna hold the racist af L.

Cacs in Atlanta got it made in Atlanta. Not saying Atlanta is a piece of cake for cacs but you can make it MUCH MUCH easier than a BM or BW.

My cousin did that shyt with just some college credits to his name and a whole baby mama at home at 23 begging me of help for his rent.

By 24, manager.

By 25, they wanted him to work and train folks in Mexico.

By 27, moved back to Atlanta and they made him an executive. The youngest executive on his team by 20 years and the only breh.

By 29, became the company's VP. His girl was his wife by this point and they had more children and she ran some coffee shops.

Let's just say the little nikka made it.

I tried that shyt too. They fired me on day 3. Maybe day 2.

All I know is that Indians are heavily concentrated around the same areas that niccas picked cotton, those are facts

I never tried my hand at call center because those jobs were too far from me, mass transit for the most part won't get you there
