Atlanta is known as a ‘Black Mecca.’ Jobs data tell a different story.

He should have moved to Chicago, NY or London and made some good bucks and then moved back to ATL.

Ain’t no way I’m going to a good school and flipping burgers after. I refuse.

But I don’t want to sound ignorant. I don’t know his ultimate situation.
I’m scamming before I do that :russ:

Atlanta is a farce. Move to where people aren’t talking about and I’m not saying because we don’t want none of y’all broke nikkas coming :lolbron: I’ll give y’all one though. In Washington DC, the blacks there are getting to it. It’s expensive but there’s opportunity there. In ATL they flashing, pretending and talking about what they wished they had but based off the thread yesterday it’s the blacks in DC that’s actually making it. Y’all on y’all own for the other places :mjpls:

Nah, that's not true at all.

What DC does benefit from over Atlanta is a strong job pool from government work. No city in the nation has it like DC does.

Atlanta is different but there are plenty of non-entertainment black millionaires in Atlanta. Trust me.

And the Government is going nowhere no time soon. You have the Government jobs, all the companies that eat off Government contracts, all the peripheral companies that serve the Government or companies eating off the Government contracts and all the companies that just want to be in DC because it’s a hip cosmopolitan city. As long as you have a degree, in DC you should have no problem getting a job.

Put this into context fam. Real estate in Atlanta and the metro area is crazy right now and not looking back.

Honestly, you might know more than I do since I haven't lived there for almost 15 years, I just remember seeing data like the below and thinking it never went back to its pre-crisis peak.

The first day of work has grown quite common for him.

There was the first day as a financial planner in 2013.

The first day as an investment analyst in 2017.

Now in 2019, the 35-year-old Virginian with a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and a master’s in finance from the University of Georgia was taking a Cobb County bus to his latest job — flipping burgers at Wendy’s.

I am plugged in good in the Northeast, not a fan of the south in general.

Beyond the scope of ATL, the folks mentioned in the article are too old and experienced to be hired when companies can hire someone half their age for half the price.

Additionally, this a problem of too many skilled people and too little resources....

Add the inherent HR racism thrown out, the career hunt is impossible for most of us....

Legitimately one of my biggest fears as I get older.

And then... There's the United States of Amazon and it's trillion dollar net worth :Wowdreds:

Them streets aren't ready

Literally!!!! 495 is already a hell hole :dbldamn:

This is what people don't get.

Just getting a job isn't the only decision. What if you lose it, how easy is it to replace it. These are things smart people look at.

Atlanta is a super rare city. Atlanta is maybe the only city in America with every type of Black person but in silos. That's damn near impossible to find in most of Black America

Most complaints about Atlanta is almost always two items for Blacks

1. Jobs
2. BW can't find a man that fits what their liking is. Just a good fit in their eyes. Obviously this isn't the case for every BW but is for many.

Facts. I was reading an article recently about how a lot of the big banks were spreading jobs around the country to low cost areas because it costs too much to keep the workers in New York City. So they’d entice them to move to places like Jacksonville, Salt Lake City and Phoenix where the company could cut their salary by 20% but even with the cut the cost of living would be so much cheaper the worker would come out ahead. Problem was...these banks ended up cutting their jobs AFTER the people relocated away from NY to the smaller cities, and now they couldn’t find anything in places like Jacksonville that paid anything close to the high finance job they had. I’m not trying move anywhere where there’s only a few jobs in my field. You asking for it at that point.

Finance master’s flipping burgers? :mindblown:

He couldn’t at least be a bank teller :dwillhuh:
You know, I actually interviewed to be a bank teller/associate in 2017. Was more selling and customer experience management than anything.

If dude can't talk to people, he wouldn't be able to get that job. :francis:
