At first it was funny, but now its just SAD to see New York lack a rap identity

This used to bother me, but I could care less now.

One thing I don't get is how can Nas (and I'm a stan) and the Jiggaman not seek out a young dope talent from this city, take them under their wings, and give them a shot.

Saigon, is the only new (and he's not really new or young) MC that's continuing that raw NYC Hip-Hop for me.

Skyzoo's The Salvation and Live From The Tape Deck are great albums that noone paid attention to. He's one of the new MCs from this city that reminds me of old NYC Hip-Hop.

Meyhem Lauren and Maffew Ragazino are also dope.

I didn't include Sean P. (can't wait for Mic Tyson) because he's been in the game.

why do people keep bringing uo Max like his music somehow trumped his charisma? He was just nice at hooks and an occasional 16. His image was on point, but if you wanna hear weak bars with piff hooks over crazy beats, French and Charlie Rock do that over Harry Fraud beats.

If you wanna hear the NY sound, Fraud and Clams Casino do a good job of capturing that (even though Clams doesn't wanna do this for a long time). The rappers either suck like French or are really good surrounded by J. Cole-esque production and weak topics

:rudy:

Clams aint got no damm NY sound. Harry Fraud on the other hand is a beast.

The only city in rap with its own identity is Atlanta.
Rick Ross had the Miami sound on his first 2 albums, but dropped it when he became "better", Houston cats do not exist anymore, LA n'ggas sound like they could be from anywhere, New Orleans sound like they could be from anywhere, Detroit and Chicago as well.

But Atlanta dudes have an Atlanta sound, you can hear that a rapper is from the A.

Stack Bundles wuz the last new ny nikka who had hope....but let's fstop acting like NY wuznt destined to become irrelevant....back in the day they had the go to media outlets that could shove NY down our throats....but it ain't like that no more with the internet and the fact u can payola anybody way onto the radio...NY and east coast in general have a different culture and language then the majority of the nation...so its not as easy for them to relate with the rest of the nation without biting other regions in some form....now that other regions got a large variety of our own rappers to fuk with there's really no reason to look at NY until they get sumbody that's super hot....and I'm still laughin at y'all nikkas karmas a muthafuka....15 years of wackness in ya future for the 15 yrs of west coast blackballing

For every Max B song you post that you think is fire I can just post another Max B song with them wack ass nikkas he was parading around like Mack Mustard and Al Pac

Hell yeah Clams does. He takes obscure ass samples, flips em and puts bass under it with a ton of treble. Palace is on some NY Dipset shyt. Same shyt with Wassup.

:why:

The Miami sound still exist with or without Ross using it.
Houston has a huge underground scene and a very distinct sound, ASAP owes Houston for his DNA.
LOL @ N.O. nikkas sounding like anybody but themselves.
LA nikkas sound like LA nikkas, you can't hear Nipsey Hussle and YG and not think west-coast.

You are talking about certain individuals.
YG does not sound like he comes from LA, neither does Kendrick Lamar, Tyga, Odd Future or anyone else that I've heard recently. Wayne and his whole camp doesn't sound like they've got a NO sound Spitta sounds like he could be from LA and the duke in your avi is from the same state but could just as well be from Memphis. Houston n'ggas does not exist outside of Houston, so I could give a f*ck about them. It's like talking about underground Queens rappers.

And who in Miami sounds like he comes from Miami? Ace Hood? He could just as well be from Atlanta or Memphis or Indiana. I don't even think duke is from Miami.

Without knowing anything about these rappers I couldn't guess where most of them came from besides Atlanta cats.

A big problem is that people use the same producers and that its in this digital age a lot easier to find influences from all over the world.

The only rapper I really go out of my way who's predominantly underground from NYC is homeboy sandman. He has the flow and lyrics down problem is he has no defined sound music wise now that he's signed with Stones throw records

Nas has tried... But cats now expect everything to be handed to them. Ive been recording, mixing and mastering for over 10 years now and I can count how many artists followed through and finished a project they started on 1 hand. Im talking so lazy that they paid in advance for sessions and never showed up and never bothered to reschedule or seek a refund.
