At first it was funny, but now its just SAD to see New York lack a rap identity

haha, for all the years the westcoast was getting shyt on over at SOHH I do have to agree a part of me laughs.

But then I realize just how much great music New York put out in the 80s and 90s and think it hurts Hip Hop when New York isn't pumping out new talent.

man, this is that classic New York ish everybody want:

Camp Lo - Luchini (This is It)

AZ - Sugar Hill

Cam'ron - Oh Boy

Pete Rock & C. L. Smooth - They Reminisce Over You

Shyne - Bad boyz

Mobb Deep - Quiet Storm (Remix)

Wu Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.

I mean damn, is this too much to ask from NY these days? :wtf: Don't worry, I know the answer :sadbron:

The NEW NYC rejuvenated sound should have been...

What the Clipse rapped over on "Hell Hath No Fury"... Would have been a perfect mainstream answer to the southern trap and bounce beats.

But hey, what do I know

NY's problem is they haven't innovated. The same thing happened to Cali until TDE, OF, and (i'm ashamed to say this) Lil B. Cali rappers were trying to emulate the g-funk sound for years. Once they stopped doing that, they came back. NY needs to step away from the past and start something new. I fukk with Action Bronson, but he sounds like 90s NY rap. French and Max were innovating, but with the Max situation and all, that kinda stopped, as French pretty much jumped on the Southern Sound (I still like it though)

Yup Max B was definitely pushing the sound. If he found his own lane on some Jazz melodic Swagg Nate Dogg fusion type shyt. He would of been legendary. He was gearing up to be in the position where French is right now but with actual skill.

My Pops Forever RIP
why do people keep bringing uo Max like his music somehow trumped his charisma? He was just nice at hooks and an occasional 16. His image was on point, but if you wanna hear weak bars with piff hooks over crazy beats, French and Charlie Rock do that over Harry Fraud beats.

If you wanna hear the NY sound, Fraud and Clams Casino do a good job of capturing that (even though Clams doesn't wanna do this for a long time). The rappers either suck like French or are really good surrounded by J. Cole-esque production and weak topics
