You're assuming that I'm religious :youngsabo: at this point in my life I consider myself agnostic, but I'm not gonna downplay the positive impact of authentic Christian values just because I have my doubts about God

You didn't say positive impact, you explicitly said that following the doctrines of a religious text would yield a "better" black community.

definitely not something a agnostic would say :youngsabo:

since we are trailing off topic slightly what countries are ran by atheists?

Here are the Top 10 least religious countries in the world:

1. Sweden (up to 85% non-believer, atheist, agnostic)
2. Vietnam
3. Denmark
4. Norway
5. Japan
6. Czech Republic
7. Finland
8. France
9. South Korea
10. Estonia (up to 49% non-believer, atheist, agnostic)

The one that surprised me was Israel, ranking 19th, with up to 37% claiming to be non-believer, atheist, agnostic. Compare that with the United States, ranking 44th, with 3-9% non-believers, atheists, agnostics. (I think I have met them all on the streets of New York City, too.)

:ohhh: You don't say

The survey concluded that "high levels of organic atheism are strongly correlated with high levels of societal health, such as low homicide rates, low poverty rates, low infant mortality rates, and low illiteracy rates, as well as high levels of educational attainment, per capita income, and gender equality.

I actually kind of agree with Reincar.

Let’s take the debate over whether God actually exists out of the equation for a second and actually focus on the values/actions that Christianity promotes. The fact is, the black community would be in much better shape if it seriously followed Christian values

No premarital sex(good luck with this happening)=less broken homes, diseases, unplanned pregnancies, single parent households

Though Shalt not kill/steal = less crime

do unto others as you would have others do unto you = more unity, less hatred amongst blacks

No gluttony, your body is a temple=less obesity, better health in the black community

Stewardship=less wasteful spending, financial responsibility

I could go on but you get the point. If pastors really want to make Christianity more relevant to the black community, they need to focus on Biblical principles that actually apply to real life issues affecting black people.

Problem is a lot of Christians (not just black) like to pick and choose what they want to be religious about, based on what they feel comfortable with. Which is why no one but the hardcore Christians waits till marriage. But if more black Christians were actually dedicated to their faith and followed what the Bible says, the impact on the community would be positive imo

Now let’s say God doesn’t exist. Even still, I would still say a belief in a higher power would be a better way to keep people in check then revealing the truth(kinda like the end of the Dark Knight) It’s sad, but I don’t have enough faith in human nature to allow the masses to think that there’s no moral authority judging their actions. For a lot of people the only thing stopping them from being a completely evil piece of shyt is the belief that they’ll go to Hell if they continue down that path. I applaud Atheists who still are “good” people despite their lack of belief in a moral authority, but to be honest I don’t really see the point, and I don’t think the average person would either.

daps this man

see even though your not a christian etc. you don't bash other peoples views and i respect that.

so the fact that I'm not sure if God exists automatically means that I can't have that opinion?

the problem with too many of you coli nyggas is you constantly place people in a box. "christians/blacks/atheists/agnostics/etc. all think this way"

people are way more complicated than that

Yeah
The white man made us forget the god we were worshipping before we were brought over here and replaced him with a white guy.....

The slave owner told the one negro "hey what you over there sobbing fo!?"

"cause I'll never get out of this hell"

Slave owner: "be happy that you alive boy...now get on.."

Slave: "I only got three dollars and I'm homeless but it's going be ok cause the lord gonna help us."

White guy: "I only got three dollars I'm about to flip this shyt and make a profit"

Not only were we as a race indirectly taught to embrace complacent behavior as if its ok to rely on something or someone else to make changes in our lives but we also was subliminally always ruled by a man in higher power that was white.

Whether with a whip (physically) being withheld important education (mentally) and with a deity (spiritually).

Why am I not surprised that a board that has so many hopeless and depressed people is predominantly anti-god?

Keep looking toward drugs, alcohol, and sex for happiness and tell me how that works out for you.

they don't hear you tho...

thing thing is how many people are truly really religious? I mean following the scripture whether the torah, bible, quran. how many folks aren't having sex before marriage, how many folks are paying their tithes, zakat, preaching the word, sacrificing, instead of wasting their money instead of if your brother is hungry feed him, if you have two coats give him one? listening to music rap, watching porn etc.

most folks are not religious, they are easter/christmas/lost my job/family member died christians.

that's why this list and its polls are :beli:, i guarantee if Christianity was outlawed tomorrow and you would be taken away for being christian how many of these so called "christians" would deny it.

Nah, it just comes across extremely contradictory to be "agnositic" but state that upholding a religious faith's "doctrine" (based on God's direction) as the best means of community "improvement". Just not very agnositic :yeshrug:

Reincar hates women, has engaged in premarital sex and has got MULTIPLE abortions. You don't need a thousand page fairy tale book to follow the simple mantra of "Treat others how you want to be treated". Mentally sane people have inherent morality, right from wrong should be one of the most obvious things to us as Humans. Let alone the fact that God kills more people in the Bible than Lucifer. The most morally corrupt people I've ever read or met in real life have been religious. So it's clear that it isn't helping. We have police and laws, we don't need a boogie man in the sky to scare people any longer.
You dont stand above anybody intellectually by mocking their views. The bible and other religious writings have a wealth of information that we all can learn from. Just like we look back at people like Galileo, and Plato and respect them as great scientific minds or thinkers. The people that wrote the bible were great social thinkers. Their teachings have stood the test of time no matter if you believe in god or not. People have hijacked these teachings used them for their own benefits, and have created religion as we know it today, but that doesn't mean you should discredit the teachings of the bible.

You have to understand at the time of the writings these people were not trying to create a religion or gain followers, they were explaining the world the best way they knew how. The bible is full of real people and real accounts of real events. Many of the writings use very epic imagery, cause there was no movies or special effects back then, so if a person wanted to creat a dramatic moment for an audience they had to use words and scenarios we would see as unrealistic today.

You mock the bible as fairy tales, but truth is the people who wrote the bible and other religious teachings were intellectually light years ahead of any of us here having this debate.
