As a whole, the NBA has lost around 45% of its viewership since 2012.

They need to incentivize mid range scoring.
Since the paint is 2 points and behind the three point line is 3 points, the logical evolution of the sport would be awarding 2.5 points for shots made between the paint and the three point line. That would give mid range scorers more power and encourage different styles of play.

Is the appeal of the mid range that it's a contested tough shot?

I agree, but its the only logical way to encourage more shots inside the three point line.
Its a better idea than pushing the 3 point line back and removing the corner three.

Yes, its a high effort, low reward that is used by highly skilled players to score in tough games.
The GOAT scorers are midrange masters (Jordan, Kyrie, KD, Carmello etc.)

Yet this hasn't happened with the NFL. :dead:

Yes the NBA has lost almost half their viewers because the product is not good so a large majority of people just watch clips of games because it is not good enough for them to watch a full 1.
NFL is condensed to 18 weeks, and only a few days of the week (which corresponds with folks' down time) where a team only plays once. Sunday is usually when folks are at home too. It's really the only sport that hasn't suffered in TV ratings because of this. Hell, it's really the only form of media that hasn't suffered in TV ratings.

As opposed to the NBA which goes from October to April and it's on literally every day, with teams playing multiple times a week. It's a marathon. Teams play 82 games, so if you miss one game, you can catch them playing the next night or the day after night.

Basketball isn't part of this country's identity like football is either. Folks will always watch football because it's a tradition, they'll plan a meal or event around a game, not just for the purpose of the game but for other reasons.

In fact, the same complaints about how the NBA product has changed is applicable to the NFL now with all the rule changes, and that still hasn't altered the TV ratings, which tells us it has nothing to do with the actual product and what folks find entertaining, at all. You ask folks to compare how the NFL is now to back in the day and the overwhelming amount of them will say it was better from yesteryear. They'll say the product is b*stardized today.

Using that same logic did people love seeing Corey Maggette & Jerry Stackhouse shoot mid range fadeaways like they did MJ & Kobe? :skip: Yet that didn’t stop them from having a green light

Fans knew who they were from college. We don’t know these 3nD create a players. Just some random jacking 3s. I want to see shyt the average person can’t do. It use to be set shooting was a unathletic CAC thing. I don’t care to watch a 3 point shooting contest. Anyone can shoot a 3.

Yet the NBA rating were higher pre 2012.
No matter how you try to make it sound good for you.

Reality is reality.

The NBA as a product gets worse and worse. People don't value it enough to watch like they use to.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
1. Patrick Mahomes plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. I don't wanna hear it.

2. Which begs the question: what do y'all want from these players on or off the court?

3. Injuries were an issue even in college, so that's not a shock. Even when he's healthy though, he's really good but I think people saw him and thought he was gonna be souped up Shawn Kemp and didn't get real.

4. Y'all want them in the league no matter what. Now women's basketball got y'all missing how college used to be huh?

5. I'd hardly call them dominant at this stage. Effective? Yes. Pump the brakes on dominant.

6. Defense is the enemy of fun.

7. all financial related complaints should be directed to @Houston911. Go ahead and tell him black basketball players make too much money.

I thought Deering High School did right by Anthony Anderson

Football is marketed differently than the NBA. For one they have a hard cap which = parity. For 2, the NBA markets stars while the NFL markets teams and the overall brand. The NBA doesn't really have parity. And because the college/NBA draft pools are so hit or miss, teams have no problem trading first round picks like candy because they are worthless most years.
College basketball is trash. No real star power at all. So fans don't follow players from college to the pros.

And that corresponds with cord cutting. NBA isn't the only one. TV ratings are down everywhere with everything.

That's the reality.

That doesn't mean there's fewer viewers, it just means folks are consuming NBA content differently to watching it on TV.

The NFL product gets worse and worse according to folks too, yet that hasn't affected TV ratings for reasons I've stated.
Because the product is still good enough to watch and the NFL promotes the team concept more than the individaul star unlike the NBA. :dead:

I'm at work right now, my co-worker comes in talking about his parlays every night. So I start asking questions who is his team, favorite players, he said he don't really watch games. I'm like breh you putting actual dollars up and being mad at players and you don't watch but you talk about the league constantly. Basketball is just different in not needing to watch to keep up with it. Crazy to see in real time tho.

I can say for myself, I watch much, much less games than in the past -- somewhat to do with getting older, having a family, but also I find the games boring and there are better ways to spend my time. I dont have that problem with the NFL, I can lock into just about any game.

over 50% of the NBA revenue comes from local/national TV deals, so its definitely a concern moving forward for the league how they replace that lost revenue. Im a bit surprised they landed such a massive national tv/media deal, because less people are watching games. The local tv money is drying up in real time in a big way. Monetizing social media, clips. etc is harder to do.

That's not the reason, at all.

NBA generated more revenue from merchandise over the past decade than they ever have before, so if the product is getting worse, you might want to tell these folks who're buying all this gear because they don't think so. And this is hilarious too considering the globalization of the game literally started because of pushing an individual player (getting away from the team concept).

Football is part of what this country is, and hoops isn't.

It's why it's the only thing to not suffer from TV ratings, where nearly everything else has.
