As a whole, the NBA has lost around 45% of its viewership since 2012.

It’s a number of factors.

1. Young star players end up in shytty markets/franchises and nobody gets to see them play.

2. Players like Jokic, Giannis, and even Luka are not exciting most of the time. And they don’t have any real star power.

3. Zion was supposed to be the future superstar but flamed out.

4. College basketball doesn’t have any real stars and these one and done “developmental” players have infested the league to the point some games feel like G League games.

5. The fact that players like LeBron, Steph, and KD are still dominant speaks to the lack of completion.

6. Scoring is cool, but after a while, watching shytty defense gets old.

7. Too many players make too much money to actually give a shyt half the time.

I can keep going, but if not for the old players like Lebron, people would barely watch. Anthony Anderson and LaMelo Ball should be in better markets.

Wemby despite is freak of nature physical abilities, is surrounded by no names besides Chris Paul and the Spurs won’t be relevant anytime soon.
1. Patrick Mahomes plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. I don't wanna hear it.

2. Which begs the question: what do y'all want from these players on or off the court?

3. Injuries were an issue even in college, so that's not a shock. Even when he's healthy though, he's really good but I think people saw him and thought he was gonna be souped up Shawn Kemp and didn't get real.

4. Y'all want them in the league no matter what. Now women's basketball got y'all missing how college used to be huh?

5. I'd hardly call them dominant at this stage. Effective? Yes. Pump the brakes on dominant.

6. Defense is the enemy of fun.

7. all financial related complaints should be directed to @Houston911. Go ahead and tell him black basketball players make too much money.

Anthony Anderson and LaMelo Ball should be in better markets.

I thought Deering High School did right by Anthony Anderson

The NBA sucks and is inaccessible for anyone who doesn’t want to turn on an illegal stream, but they’re eating globally and the kids still seem to be in touch with the product

The death of the league is overblown and false from a financial standpoint but from an entertainment standpoint yea it’s cooked, more people would rather watch the highlights than the full game these days, and I cannot blame them

Everyone felt a way when the NFL didn’t allow people to post highlights.

I called it a smart move. You control how people ingest the game.

As I wrote in my article in 2001… The NBA’s problem is that they focused too much on the back of the jersey rather than the front of the jersey. And that all started when they left CBS.

There's a multitude of reasons as others have echoed:

1. Style of play/no variety in the game at large

2. NBA Media is the worst in sports, and they've made it so fans don't have to care about the regular season as much because "Rangzzzz"

3. One and done killed college basketball which in turn hurt the NBA because on a large scale, nobody knows who the fukk these guys are unless you're name is Zion Williamson or most recently, Cooper Flagg

4. Foreign born players aren't necessarily moving the needle in America

I say all this as a basketball junkie btw, this is just what I perceive a casual fan would say as to why they lost interest

ngl, I stopped following the NBA for a few years after Mavs beat the Heat in 2011.
That was such a good Finals run that I knew it wouldn't be topped in a long time.

That's sports in a nutshell for many people, not just basketball. boring effectiveness will trump entertainment when entertainment doesn't keep you employed.

That's partly why now we've seen a rise in MMA and watching kids play video games.

what keeps some events going is the belief that every game matters and the loser dies somehow.

The major problem with your argument is that it completely ignores the fact that sports was supposed to be DVR and immune from legal streams and cord cutting. It's the exact reason why sports leagues have been able to argue for a bigger piece of pie compared to everyone else.

If what you're saying is true, then how can the NBA justify their asking prices going forward?
Largely because the revenue that NBA generates doesn't come from TV ratings.

Merchandise, sponsorship and everything else media-related that the NBA has its hands in which is ever-expanding given all the different avenues that entertainment crosses.
