As a whole, the NBA has lost around 45% of its viewership since 2012.

That's not the reason, at all.

NBA generated more revenue from merchandise over the past decade than they ever have before, so if the product is getting worse, you might want to tell these folks who're buying all this gear because they don't think so. And this is hilarious too considering the globalization of the game literally started because of pushing an individual player (getting away from the team concept).

Football is part of what this country is, and hoops isn't.

It's why it's the only thing to not suffer from TV ratings, where nearly everything else has.
Buying a shirt is buying a shyt.

Too bad that shyt buyer don't find the NBA worth watching. :dead:

To add on -

Just because TV ratings remain high for the NFL, it doesn't mean folks are actually watching the game either. As I touched on earlier, for a good portion of those folks they'll have the game on in the background and center a meal/event around it, where they're not actively watching every play but having it on as background setting on a Sunday.

The same doesn't happen for hoops.

Football is marketed differently than the NBA. For one they have a hard cap which = parity. For 2, the NBA markets stars while the NFL markets teams and the overall brand. The NBA doesn't really have parity. And because the college/NBA draft pools are so hit or miss, teams have no problem trading first round picks like candy because they are worthless most years.
College basketball is trash. No real star power at all. So fans don't follow players from college to the pros.
To the bolded: surprise! That's a big problem the league has.

As for college, what they do offer is different styles. That's why the tournament doesn't just become a three point shootout.

Fans knew who they were from college. We don’t know these 3nD create a players. Just some random jacking 3s. I want to see shyt the average person can’t do. It use to be set shooting was a unathletic CAC thing. I don’t care to watch a 3 point shooting contest. Anyone can shoot a 3.

Y’all knew who they were because they played in college for multiple years, not because they didn’t shoot 3s or had some super exciting style of play that was must see TV

I'm at work right now, my co-worker comes in talking about his parlays every night. So I start asking questions who is his team, favorite players, he said he don't really watch games. I'm like breh you putting actual dollars up and being mad at players and you don't watch but you talk about the league constantly. Basketball is just different in not needing to watch to keep up with it. Crazy to see in real time tho.

One of my boys just like that

Bets on the NBA, plays 2K, constantly talking about what's going on around the league but will only watch highlights

It’s a lot of ppl that applies to. Follow everything about the NBA but will rarely ever sit and watch a game.

NBC / Disney / Amazon are banking on the NBA bringing a big boom to their streaming platforms because these tv deals are going to be bringing in much less money in terms of advertising dollars. I just don’t think people will care to sign up to watch NBA games :yeshrug:

Buying a shirt means they're following the NBA. They're just not all following it by watching games tradtionally on TV. That's all it is.
Because the product isn't good enough to consume by actually watching the games. :dead:

College lacks continuity. With players transferring or freshman leaving after one year or simply not going at all. In the 90's you actually knew players by name on random teams. And it college, the game for the most part, isn't free flowing. And a lot of players can't shoot for shyt.

But styles don't mean shyt, if you don't know the players.

And the NBA marketing players over teams has been going on since Magic and Bird.. and was accelerated with Michael Jordan. The media pays billions so they have a say in how shyt is marketed.

Shyt I watch the grizzlies primarily through my phone on some sketchy website when I get a chance at work. But once I get off I'm just chilling with my wife, check the score on bleacher report. If we win I'll watch the condensed version on YouTube with double speed. So according to these numbers I ain't watched a game since I had cable back in college

This is just something you've created in your own head. It's not reality.

I remember the Thanksgiving NFL games last season, and I was with the fam (20+ people) and even the older heads were sat up in their chairs looking at their phones instead of actually watching the game (some of them gambling). They'd pop their head up every so often if the commentary warranted it, but other than that, they'd be looking and talking about shyt on their phones.

The amount of entertainment we have access to now really puts on a strain on watching games of sport like we used to.
