As a whole, the NBA has lost around 45% of its viewership since 2012.

Also, unless the league makes a drastic rule change teams will just continue to jack up 60 threes a night on a regular basis. Turns out analytical efficient driven basketball is not something a lot of people find entertaining, who knew?
Let’s not act like iso ball of the early 2000’s was so awesome

Why are ratings down? Too many of the best players are foreigners and no super teams, the new cba is killing depth

Well it’s football season and it’s hard to justify giving a shyt about meaningless NBA games right now.

Plus all the real stan-able stars are old as hell and there are no story lines anymore.

Low key the league needs to encourage super teams.

almost none of this has to do with the product. there are just fewer and fewer households with cable. since 2020 there are 20 million fewer people in cable bundles. charter lost 1.36 million subscribers last year alone.

teams wanna win more than we thought :krs:

Remember peak Steph when a team could get off to a 14-6 lead and Steph and Klay would erase that lead in less than a minute?

That shyt is demoralizing, so now you gotta fight fire with fire. That's just what it is, but teams are trying to win. Show me a team that's gonna try win hitting middys to death and I'll show you a team that loses 55 games a year because they ran into a team that made 40% of their threes on any given night.

That has nothing to do with TV ratings.

TV ratings are down across the board because cable is dying.

You could have the best players throughout NBA history, all in their primes, all with different types of play and the TV ratings would be the same. By that note though, there's more fans of the NBA over the last decade than ever before, so does that mean analytical efficient driven hoops is the most entertaining?

But that's my point though, it leads to redundancy in play from teams. I'm not even saying every team needs to play like early 2000's 76ers where you had one guy and everybody clear out so he can get a bucket, just variety. Teams can be trying to win, that's fine, just don't be surprised when people stop finding it entertaining because every team does the same thing. It's like how the league had to add the shot clock because if teams realized they had you beat by a point, they could just hold the ball, shyt stopped being entertaining to watch.

I think the 3-pointers are a misnomer. Not saying there aren’t people who legitimately hate it but

nikkas were shytting on that Nuggets-Heat Finals before a game was even played and neither of them are “3 point spamming analytic teams”

Casual NBA fans need storylines, they need heroes & villains, that’s how the media has conditioned them and right now the league doesn’t have that. Those other things contribute for sure but that’s the main

Iso ball is trash fundamentally but it's much more exciting than watching 6 foot 8 nikkas Chuck up 30 foot 3s

They haven't lost half the audience.

There's more people who watch/follow NBA than ever before.

The only difference is how they're digesting it.

Cable has been on life support for a minute now and there are too many restrictions with League Pass, to where now [illlega] streaming has taken over. TV ratings are going to reflect that. There's also the fact that as a society we're much more shrewd with how we digest entertainment, given the abundance of it, where instead of watching a random Tuesday night NBA game, we'll just check the highlights (or box score) and instead play video games, or watch highlights from another sport, or stream a series/film or create your own content for others to watch.
Yet this hasn't happened with the NFL. :dead:

Yes the NBA has lost almost half their viewers because the product is not good so a large majority of people just watch clips of games because it is not good enough for them to watch a full 1.

Coli nikkas live in they own world outside of what casual fans want to see

Steph and lebron are getting old and people respect they game but tired of them until possible playoff time

There’s no other real marketable players with that crossover appeal

League trying to push ant man but he’s not it. Tatum is a good player but a personality of a dead cow.. jaylen brown to quiet and doesn’t care about the limelight

Big markets like Chicago, New York and even down In Miami have no one..

But overall the game sucks with the analytics and everyone shooting 3s

The NFL is its own greatness. No need to compare every single debate.

They need to incentivize mid range scoring.
Since the paint is 2 points and behind the three point line is 3 points, the logical evolution of the sport would be awarding 2.5 points for shots made between the paint and the three point line. That would give mid range scorers more power and encourage different styles of play.
