Truly some of the most beautiful places you could even imagine. I would hook up with a tour company if you don't know anyone. You can usually find them in the US and Europe that are owned by dual citizens. They will safely take you to some off the beaten path places safely, and they know where the good restaurants are. Outside of a few temples and Taj Mahal are the best things to do. We knew these people that had a company like that, but they moved to New York to guilt their white ex-daughter in-law that their son's kids need to be raised more Indian, LOL:krs: . They will also keep you off the trains as much as possible. I'm glad we just got to ride and get off because my gf was telling me about times their train was delayed and they had to stay in water filled hotels, lol. Best thing is, its a pretty cheap trip outside of airfare, and airfare is much cheaper now that flights go through Dubai. If you catch it at the right time, you can even get in business class because the coach flights can be full as hell.

History
Over 36,000 Indians were taken to Jamaica as indentured workers between 1845 and 1917, with around two thirds of them remaining on the island. The demand for their labour came after the end of slavery in 1830 and the failure to attract workers from Europe. Indian labourers, who had proved their worth in similar conditions in Mauritius, were sought by the Jamaican Government, in addition to workers coming from China. Indian workers were actually paid less than the former West African slaves and were firmly at the bottom on the social ladder. The legacy of these social divisions was to linger for many decades.

You will either love it or hate it.

Don't drink the water.

I won't tell you not to give to beggars, but if you do, do it discreetly...otherwise a flock will descend upon you.

If you are buying shyt, never pay asking price... you are more than likely getting ripped off.

Definitely try and take a train ride, it's a great way to see the country, and the transition from village to city life before your eyes. Dont eat food thats offered to you though. If you feel brave enough, take a bus too, but im warning you not everybody is built for that.

I suggest checking out the south if you can, people are more educated and modern, and more likely to be friendly towards you. The south is more like "real" India culturally, no Muslim influence like you see in the north. It also has the best temples and scenery.

No way could I eat their food 24/7. And I go to Indian restaurants all the time, but my Indian co-workers always pick out the food for me.
