really just in the last year, the last "new rappers"/projects from "new rappers" i enjoyed was carti's mixtape (his album was just aight), that future and juicewlrd project, uzi's album, smino, cozz and JID...so i guess up until 2018...

i'll always find new tracks i fukk with from new dudes, but as far as actually being a fan or checking for entire projects, last year was the first year it felt "different" for me, like i couldn't find any new rappers i'd be an actual fan of

Y'all really expect for us to go from the greats like Nas, Pun, DMX etc, with some excellent production, and be happy with this simpleminded shyt we currently got?

:stopitslime:
What makes artist now so simple minded?

Nas,DMX and pun ain’t say anything other than the most basic shyt

I don’t think there’s a bad era

Everybody brings something different to the culture

See what I mean about cliche arguments

What does “got no soul” mean?

This is just a terrible way of looking at hiphop imo

Everyone goal when making a song is not to be lyrical. Artist put that energy into Adlibs, delivery, hooks, subject, etc.

Deciding whether music sounds good based on complex lyrics is an awful way to be a fan of rap

Soul man :dahell: that funk, that classic shyt, music that makes you feel man....:dahell::dahell:the fukk you mean "what is soul"?

shyt these cats are so godamn lazy, they cant even make a radio edit for they single, half of the fukkin lyrics are blurted out.

You don’t think music makes you feel anymore?

What are you even talking about. Just throwing a bunch of fluff out there

Nah music nowadays got no soul, this shyt sucks.
Last full album I fukked with qas Dark Sky Paradise...

Kanye exec produced it and the use of samples...

But yea we need more funky shyt...

Getting tired of this trap soul, fully quantized trap sound with the same hihat patterns and 808 basslines :russell:

Never. I admit I don’t keep up like I used to becuz there’s SO MUCH music being released compared to the past that I can’t keep up. But I always like to stay current as best as possible. I refuse to be one of them old nikkas who complain and don’t even know whats out. If I say something is garbage it’s becuz I gave it a chance

YBN, Tay K, NBA Young Boy, Rae Sremmurd are decent. Dudes like Lil pump are pure trash:scusthov: Blac Youngsta got some good beats, but he ain't that good either

This came out 8 months ago, I'm kinda behind. I usually go through Spotify

U sound stupid af breh. What about the cats who grew up on Rakim, Run DMC and LL? Older mfs? I don't think too many late 40 and 50 year olds are checkin for new shyt. And they we're the generation who set the tone for the culture

1) The e thugging is unnecessary. U would never EVER in your life start a convo in real life with me like that. I didnt disrespect you so the up front disrespect was totally unwarranted..check yourself.

2) This is an old discussion... Most people whatever age aren't really into music like the fanatics. Most people aren't crate diggers like the fanatics. Most people dont go into the science of music like the fanatics. So you are refering to the average person...You not refering to a real hip hop head at all. Real hip hop heads have 38 Spesh, Rapsody, Stro, Cyhi The Prince, Pro Era, Don Q, Griselda, Mozzy, Nick Grant, Logic, Sky Anikan and Concept Jackson, Villian Park, Young MA, Underacheivers, Roc Marciano, Keen Streetz, J Cole, Dee savv , Danny Brown Envy caine, Sa roc, Meek Mills, Nipsey Hussle, Saigon Selma Slim, Royce Da 5'9, C Struggs....And I can go on and on. So if an old head isn't getting the Hip Hop he wants, its because he's not digging. We not in the 80's 90's, 2000's era no more were radio, MTV and BET gave us our hip hop on a mainstream level. There's too much music now and technology has changed the guards. Its on those old heads to either keep up or get left behind. I'm not complaining because I keep up.

Also....there is no way a 40 to 50 year old can avoid listening to whats current because they might have kids...and those kids will play the current shyt around them. They might not get fully into but if they have kids, they gonna have a foundation. When the BBQ breaks out they play old and new..Thats the tradition. I went to my lil cousins birthday party...She had Drakes Scorpion playing. The elders were bopping their heads to "Keke...do u love me."

You missed my point, what I'm saying is that it's not so much about being "lyrical miracle" with nothing else going on in the song.

It's about having a balance (without lacking one) of everything which the East Coast perfected especially in the 90s from a lyric, production & hook standpoint like nothing was mediocre on one side (lyrics) compared to the other (production/hooks) everything had to be on point.

Everything was balanced :manny:.
They only perfected things to fans that endear themselves to that era of music
