Exactly. This is the right answer.

Anyone who comes in here giving a date was never a hip hop fan to begin with. You always have to see where this genre is going if you so called claim to be part of it. I'm looking at all the posters actually giving dates and SMH. Then they complain when other ethnicities engage in it.

bruh, miss me with that bullshyt so because I am not actively looking for new releases from new artists, I am/never was a hip hop fan? :mjlol::mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:bro these cats dont even make albums, got 30 minute LP's less than 8 tracks and shyt, fukk these new rappers man, they only good for a song and they get bushed.

U sound stupid af breh. What about the cats who grew up on Rakim, Run DMC and LL? Older mfs? I don't think too many late 40 and 50 year olds are checkin for new shyt. And they we're the generation who set the tone for the culture
nikkas expect 40 and 50 year olds to be bumping some teenager's music in their whip.:mjlol:

Probably 2013

I mean I still listen to a lot of newer artist and some of my favorite projects have come from the 2010s but it’s not from the mainstream artist

Rn there’s not that many rappers who if they drop an album ima listen to it. Only 1 i’d really 100% listen to is Kendrick and Gibbs, there’s some I’ll listen to but I’ve kinda lost interest in

I think I lost interest in Hip-Hop cuz I listen to older Hip-Hop an I listen to other genres, specifically R&B from 70s-90s

I think 2014, i know Mastermind by Rick Ross was one of the last albums i remember downloading

Since then ive only heard the Havoc and Alchemist album, along with Jay-Z's 4:44

Now i mostly listen to older rap, back when rap was less violent and more about having fun

Also the rappers that are considered the best today as compared to 20-25 years ago aren't even close to being at the same level imo.

I don’t understand why 90s east coast bias lends itself to such stale and cliche opinions on rap
It's because for alot of us from the East Coast we have a standard when it comes to lyrics like if it's is trash or borderline simple (no matter if it's catchy) we'll feel lukewarm about it :manny:.

Other fans that rep their coast / region of hip-hop wouldn't understand and I'm not saying on no elitist shyt because I fu*k heavily with 90s & early 00s of south & west hip-hop I got love for them, but the standard is different out in those areas :yeshrug: for instance a friend of mine back in high school didn't like much west coast music not because of the sound or him thinking it was wack, but moreso because he felt the lyrics started sounding alike even tho it came from different west coast artists :manny:.

Around 2005 or 2006. Same thing with R&B.

There are a few artists that I can listen to, like Cole, but all the mainstream stuff has been straight garbage for the past 10 to 13 years.

Producers need to get back into sampling old music, and forget about the lame trap shyt.

Bro these nikkas just don’t like hip hop. Some people are saying as early as 2000-5. I know we don’t agree on everything, but this is spot on. What do you think is the worst era of hip hop? I’d say the mid 2000s

I don’t think there’s a bad era

Everybody brings something different to the culture

Nah music nowadays got no soul, this shyt sucks.

See what I mean about cliche arguments

What does “got no soul” mean?

It's because for alot of us from the East Coast have a standard when it comes to lyrics if the lyrics is trash or borderline simple (no matter if it's catchy) we'll feel lukewarm about it :manny:.

Other fans that rep their coast / region of hip-hop wouldn't understand and I'm not saying on no elitist shyt because I fu*k heavily with 90s & early 00s of south & west hip-hop I got love for them, but the standard is different out in those areas :yeshrug: for instance a friend of mine back in high school didn't like much west coast music not because of the sound or him thinking it was wack but moreso because he felt the lyrics sounds all started to sound the same even tho it came from different artists :manny:.

This is just a terrible way of looking at hiphop imo

Everyone goal when making a song is not to be lyrical. Artist put that energy into Adlibs, delivery, hooks, subject, etc.

Deciding whether music sounds good based on complex lyrics is an awful way to be a fan of rap
