The Good:
1.What stands out first and foremost are the visuals. This movie is fukking beautiful. Even when it's just a giant CGI fest it's so imaginative and well lit/coloured. It's like Wan mixed Star Wars with Avatar and then the fact that most of it is underwater and he pulls it off is just amazing.
When I saw Justice League I liked what Snyder did but the whole talking in the bubble thing felt a bit cheap. Now we find out that's just an ability of fine ass Meera.
2. Second is a tie between the actors and action.
The action is off the chain. When it's big it's imaginative and over the top but when it gets smaller it's well choreographed and filmed on some Creed shyt. It reminded me of the casino fight in BP, and honestly the Aquaman/Manta and Aquaman/Orn one on ones is exactly what I thought Coogler would do with BP vs Killmonger. Aquaman easily has the best fight scenes I've seen since Winter Soldier.
I'm not surprised the actors did their thing, maybe Amber Heard a bit I wasn't sold on her in the trailers but she pulls it off. She's so fukking fine too. Happy to see Jango Fett getting it in.
3. Soundtrack was mostly dope as fukk, very trippy and aquatic. There's one major violation but not in the score. Check the UGLY section.
4. The story. Some familiar tropes but I loved the addition of Manta/having two villains. I see a lot of people complaining but that shyt absolutely worked for me, and makes a legit case for the "if you CAN save somebody you should". Aquaman was justified in letting Mantas pops die, BUT he probably would've prevented a whole gang of shyt and might've redeemed Manta if he showed him compassion/mercy.
Also LOVED that both villains survived, one thing I hate about most superhero movies is killing off the villains (somw exceptions in Joker/Loki).
What I liked most of all is the resolution for now to Orn. Him legit just giving up after he saw his mom was just dope, and Aquaman just telling him "when you're ready let's talk" was dope. Them trying ro reconcile and failing could lead to a legit even better part 2, and a more unique story.
The Bad:
However I do agree that the movie is too long. It's dope that they explored all of the kingdoms but it does ask a lot. I'll have to see it more often to really figure out what I would trim down. Not sure it needed them walking through the Sahara, would've just had them jump off the plane and launch into the Kingdom or something.
That's really the only complaint I had.
