What was funny was the "raiders" or precursor to the Klan or whatever you call them. That shyt was random as hell and funny. The level of Sam Jackson's c00nery. Not laughing at him being a Tom, but cotdamn, the levels of c00nery. Its like you knew he himself had to be like cotdamn. The constant running joke was how dirty, badly accented and downright stupid a lot of the characters in the movie were. If anything I thought the comedy was really well placed. I was afraid there would be a lot of cringing by me, but I was just laughing a lot of the time. The looks on people's faces when they saw Jamie were priceless. So the slavery, the idea of how evil white people were then, even with the dude reading the bible, the comedy, the cinematography, the violence. Damn great movie. And that surprised me, as I went in really skeptical and wouldn't have seen it if all my brothers and sisters weren't in town to all catch it together. Its funny, we watched Roots just the other day. This was way more hardcore on the horrors of slavery. People say they felt Kunta getting whipped back in the day. I could feel the lashes in this. I could also feel Jamie whippin that ass. And yes, I felt there was a lot of using ******. But when you felt the characters were a little too casual with it, they would do something to get you back in the mindset that those were some evil ass devils.

For those that say, I'm praising the white man's portrayal, I'm not. I've read enough history, slave narrative and biographical texts to know the portrayal is never harsh enough of those times. But that was pretty damn harsh for a movie. What I will take it as a white person outside of academia actually not excusing the people of those times as the way of people in those times. They were devils and were portrayed as such in case you were worried about that.

Great post breh...just a great post.:lawd:

I just watched it and I thought it was good but the ending was wayyyyyy to far out there. Everything was believable up until Leo got killed the entire ending was just not even remotely realistic but I still enjoyed it. I was really impressed by Leo and the German, I also think Samuel Jackson played his role very well:mjpls:

I take that you never watched Inglorious Basterds or familiar with Tarantino's movies in general.

"Roots" is inauthentic. But a Slave in the 1800's with a perfect Shape Up is?

How many white people die in this movie? Hopefully a lot so I can whine like a bytch about a movie I haven't even seen.

Fred.

You mean like this white guy?

KUHNER: Jamie Foxx and the rise of black bigotry - Washington Times

You're white.... You're most likely not gonna relate to the emotions and opinions of certain black people in regards to this movie... Your attempt at belittling others for their feelings towards a film that depicts slavery is just dumb and you're like 30 something, you would think some sort of maturity and empathy could be expressed at that age... Notice how 2 white dudes dapped your post as well... My point is.. not everyone is like you.. Including your fellow white guy who wrote that article for the Washington Post...

For every Black person who was offended by the subject matter in the film, there was probably a white person who agrees with Mr. Kuhner and thinks this film is anti white racism or they agree with all the people who think the film will incite black on white violence...

Me personally, i love the film and never had a problem with it, in pre-production, post production, and its release to the public, Im just responding to your condescending white ass because the shyt kind of irks me, but at the same time reaffirms my opinions on white folks in general...

I'll speak on this in a min...

The most slept on quote of the ENTIRE film is when Django said
"Black folks need to get away from around these White folks." He said it twice to drive the point home. Me & the wifey discussed this because it clearly meant that despite white people best intentions, they just don't understand...and in the end. We will have to do it alone. Which is why Django ended up accomplishing said goal all by his lonesome. The move was deep and had alot of layers.

I disagree. Django needed the white man's help to make it that far. It's impossible for a black person to "do it alone" without ANY white help in a movie or in real life. As much as we want to we can't lump all white people together just like we dont want them to lump us all together.

I just watched it and I thought it was good but the ending was wayyyyyy to far out there. True, plus I think the movie fell off a bit when Jamie had to carry it by himself.

The more I think about the role of django, and then look at will smiths upcoming films, I'm so disappointed he didn't take this role (and even moreso that it didn't go to Michael k Williams...not a big name like Foxx, but got damn if I couldn't envision him playing the hell outta django). Smith needs to take a risk and work on a film that utilizes his acting skills, not one that plays to his comfort zone

that article wasn't even really about the movie. and it's from Dec 13th, so I wonder if he even saw the movie

that being said, it's a good article that touches on subjects that probably wouldn't be too popular around here... (I know because it's the kind of thing I like to talk about, but have learned to avoid)

It doesn't need to touch on the movie, this line was enough...

Take “Django Unchained.” The movie boils down to one central theme: the white man as devil — a moral scourge who must be eradicated like a lethal virus.

Also read the comments.... shyt, you can google and you'll see how some whites feel about this movie... but I doubt any of you dudes will go to these other forums and say what you're saying here though:ehh:

AND OFCOURSE HE DIDN'T SEE THE MOVIE... It is pretty much what people are getting criticized on here for, complaining about or having a strong opinion on a movie they haven't seen... Which is why I quoted Hex in the first place because thats what he was doing...

Also, if you enjoy talking about the bullshyt in that article, there are plenty of white nationalist websites where you can discuss the big bad bigoted black man cracking jokes on white people. Go join your comrades...

Will doesn't have that raw look like Jamie does. He knew he didn't have what it takes for a role like this which is why he didn't take it. I don't think Michael K Williams would have the same type of charisma on screen as Fox displayed.

:rudy: yeah, clearly if I like discussing a subject, that means I fall on one extreme side of it

:
- Leo was kind of some pimpery with his speech. Evil ass character :leostare:
-:[/spoiler]

-yeah i noticed candle voice and mannerism turned kinda pimpish while discussing his view on the slavery business on specific scenes...naturally i assumed the movie was suggesting modern day urban human trackickers(black pimps) such as bishop don juan for example " swag" is rooted in flamboyent sharp tongued plantation owners like candle.

-also the mandingo fight scene clearly shows how the whiteman has instigating and rewarding black on black violence savagery since slavery time which after effects are still being felt today.
